BOWIE, MD --The Bulldogs split their Central Intercollegiate Athletics Association (CIAA) doubleheader against Lincoln University (PA) winning game one 6-4 and dropping game two 9-8 on Sunday afternoon Apr. 14 at BSU Softball Field in Bowie, MD.
GAME 1 | Bowie State 6, Lincoln (PA) 4
The Bulldogs (12-20, 6-4) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and never surrendered the advantage on the way to a 6-4 victory against the Lions (11-22, 7-4) on Sunday.
Akirra Pullen (6-10) started in the circle and picked up the win for Bowie State. The right-hander went seven innings, giving up four runs, two earned, on five hits, allowing one walk and striking out one.
In the batter's box, the Bulldogs were led by Jayla Hill, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a home run and an RBI. Lindsey George put together a standout day at the dish as well, going 2-for-3 with two doubles. Presleigh Braxton also chipped in for BSU, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bulldogs got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom of the first inning with the game still scoreless. Braxton came across to score the lone run of the inning for BSU and get them on the board.
The Bulldogs then held the Lions scoreless before expanding their lead in the third inning. Sydney Edmond came across to score the lone run of the inning for BSU, which brought the Bulldogs lead to 2-0.
LUPA narrowed BSU's lead to 2-1 before the Bulldogs stretched the advantage to 4-1 in the fourth inning.
BSU held the LUPA scoreless before their offense got in gear the next inning. The Bulldogs picked up two runs, including one on a solo round-tripper off the bat of Hill, bringing the BSU advantage to 6-1. The Lions put three runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Bulldogs still held on for the 6-4 win.

» The Bulldogs' power output was led by George, who compiled two extra-base hits in the ballgame.

GAME 2 | Lincoln (PA) 9, Bowie State 8
The Bulldogs (12-21, 6-5) took a 7-3 lead into the sixth inning, but could not hang on and fell 9-8 to the Lions (12-22, 8-4) Sunday afternoon.
Karen Fritzges (1-1) came out of the bullpen for BSU and took the loss.
Offensively, the Bulldogs were led by Hill, who went 3-for-4 on the day with a double, a triple, a walk and two RBI. Coreena Dunham compiled a noteworthy effort as well, going 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI. Jahkya Watkins also chipped in for BSU, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a walk.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 1-0, the Bulldogs first put runs on the board in the second inning. Watkins came across to score the lone run of the inning for BSU and get them on the board.
The score stayed at 1-1 until the very next inning, when the Bulldogs put runs on the scoreboard once again. BSU managed to push across two runs in the inning, which brought the Bulldogs lead to 3-1.
BSU held LUPA without a run before expanding their lead to 4-1 the following inning. The Bulldogs scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Hill.
The Lions gained ground, closing the gap to 4-3 until the Bulldogs added some insurance in the fifth. The three-run frame for the Bulldogs was punctuated by a two-RBI double from Dunham. bringing the BSU advantage to 7-3.
The Lions then mounted a comeback, taking an 8-7 lead heading into the sixth, when the Bulldogs tied up the game at eight. BSU scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Pullen. LUPA then scored one time over the remaining one inning to break the tie and grab the 9-8 win.
