Bowie State to Face Fayetteville State in CIAA Softball Tournament Quarterfinal

BOWIE, MD -- The No. 3 Bowie State softball team will head to Glen Allen, VA for the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Softball tournament quarterfinal against the south No. 2 Fayetteville State on Friday, May 3 at 10 a.m. at RF&P Park. 

All quarterfinal, semifinal, and championship games this weekend will be broadcast live via the CIAASN - https://theciaasn.com/.

The Series vs Fayetteville State

  • BSU is 13-9 all-time versus FSU.
  • The Bulldogs are 5-5 in their last 10 games against the Broncos.
  • FSU is the only South team to beat BSU this season, 6-4 on Mar. 27, 2024.

Last Time Out 
The 2023 reigning champion Bulldogs (16-21, 11-5 CIAA) enter the CIAA tournament riding a four-game win streak to close out the regular season. BSU dominated offensively in the doubleheader against Elizabeth City State winning 9-5 and 12-4. In game one of the doubleheader, seven BSU hitters hit for extra bases with Presleigh Braxton tallying a triple. Lindsey George racked up four hits and five RBIs in the doubleheader while, Jayla Hill hit an inside-the-park grand slam to bolster the Bulldogs' lead in game two.

Hill leads the team with a batting clip of .434, followed by George (.366) and  Coreena Dunham (.328). In the circle, Pullen (8-10) has an ERA of 3.17 with 56 strikeouts through 103.2 innings pitched. George (6-8) has started 16 games with an ERA of 3.52 with 43 strikeouts through 77.2 innings.  

About Fayetteville State
Fayetteville State (14-18, 8-8 CIAA) enters the CIAA tournament after splitting a doubleheader against south No. 3 Claflin dropping game one 8-1 but winning game two 5-4. Xztashya Porter had a great day for the Broncos tallying four hits on the day with a home run in game two. Treja Patterson also homered in game two helping extend the Broncos' lead in their victory. 

In the circle, Hannah Mills (7-4) has an ERA of 6.41 with 43 strikeouts through 66.0 innings pitched followed by Kevana Deberry (6-6) with an ERA of 6.87 with 78 strikeouts in 90.1 innings pitched.

At Stake
With a win, the Bulldogs face the winner of Virginia State versus Shaw at 4 p.m Friday afternoon. With a loss, BSU will enter the loser's bracket and face the loser of VSU versus SU at 2 p.m. Friday afternoon.
