Bowie State will Face No. 1 East Stroudsburg in NCAA Regional Play

BOWIE, MD -- The 2024 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Champion Bowie State softball team received an automatic bid into the NCAA Division II Softball Championship Regionals. As the No. 8 seed, Bowie State will face No. 1 seed East Stroudsburg at Creekview Park in Stroudsburg, Pa., on Thursday, May 9 at 11 a.m. 

The Atlantic Region Tournament is double elimination.

The Series vs East Stroudsburg

Last Time Out 
The 2024 CIAA Champion Bulldogs (20-21) enter the Division II Regionals going unbeaten in the CIAA tournament to win their second consecutive CIAA Championship. Tournament MVP Jayla Hill tallied seven hits in the tournament with two home runs and one double. Coreena Dunham showed up big in the championship game going 3-4 with one of her hits being a home run and four stolen bases. Dunham is currently ranked fourth in Division II stolen bases with 49 on the season.

Hill leads the team with a batting clip of .453, followed by Lindsey George (.352) and Sydney Edmond (.336). In the circle, Akirra Pullen (9-10) has an ERA of 3.49 with 66 strikeouts through 103.2 innings pitched. She was named to the All-Tournament Team during the Bulldogs conference championship run. Meanwhile, George (6-8) has started 18 games with an ERA of 3.74 with 50 strikeouts through 88 innings.  

About East Stroudsburg
East Stroudsburg (41-15) comes into the Division II Regionals after a loss in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship game versus West Chester, 11-7. The Warriors set a school record in wins with 45 on the season. Sarah Davenport their standout freshman won the PSAC East Pitcher of the Year and Freshman of the Year awards while head coach Jaime Wolhbach won PSAC Coach of the Year. ESU had four players make All-Team selections with Davenport headlining the group. 

In the circle, Davenport (25-6) has an ERA of 1.35 with 308 strikeouts through 176.2 innings pitched followed by Paige Zigmund (19-8) with an ERA of 3.13 with 185 strikeouts in 167.2 innings pitched.

The winner will advance to face the winner between No. 4 Kutztown and No. 5 Shippensburg at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 10. The loser between Bowie State and East Stroudsburg will face the loser between Kuztown and SU on Friday, May 10 at 1:30 p.m. in a double-elimination contest.
