Bulldogs Drop 4-Set Match to Goldey-Beacom

BOWIE, MD -- The Bowie State women's volleyball team fell short Friday evening, as the Goldey-Beacom Lightning posted a 3-1 (24-26, 25-20, 12-25, 21-25) win inside A.C. Jordan Arena for the Bulldogs home opener.

The non-conference loss dropped Bowie State to 1-5 on the season.

Iman Wright finished with eight kills on the day to lead the Bulldogs offense. Additionally, Taylor Johnson recorded 11 digs, while Nina Edwards finished with five blocks to lead them defensively.

Game Notes
» Trinity Loundmon had a team-high one ace in the loss.
» Bowie State never trailed on the way to winning the second set 25-20.
» Wright had a team-high eight kills for Bowie State.
» Bowie State got a team-high 11 digs from Johnson.
» Bowie State attackers were helped by a team-high 18 assists from Loundmon.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Bulldogs couldn't persevere past a furious Goldey-Beacom rally in the first set, losing 26-24 after leading by seven points at 22-15 earlier in the set.

SET 2 | Bowie State responded to pick up a 25-20 victory in set two, evening the match at one set apiece. The Bulldogs scored first and never trailed in the set to secure the victory. Bowie State opened its biggest lead of the stanza, five points, to close out the set. Bowie State's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking four Goldey-Beacom attacks in the stanza and capitalizing on 11 Goldey-Beacom attacking errors on the way to victory.

SET 3 | Bowie State lost the third set, putting the Bulldogs in a 2-1 hole. The Bulldogs dropped a tough set 25-12. Bowie State trailed by as many as 13 points as Goldey-Beacom grabbed the advantage for good at 4-3 in a set that was knotted up four times before the Lightning took over the lead.

SET 4 | Bowie State then lost the fourth set 25-21 to finish off the match. The Bulldogs trailed by as many as seven points as Goldey-Beacom grabbed the advantage for good at 4-3 and Bowie State was never able to recover in a set that was tied up two times before the Lightning took over the lead.

Up Next 

The Bulldogs will travel to Takoma Park, Md., on Sunday, Sept. 15 for a non-conference tilt with Washington Adventist.
