Bowie, MD -- The Bowie State Bulldogs fell at home in a nail bitter against Davenport 17-14 Saturday afternoon at Bulldog Stadium.
The Panthers improved to 2-0 on the season while the Bulldogs dropped to 0-2.
Kevin Taylor led Bowie State's passing attack with 191 yards through the air, tossing two touchdowns without throwing an interception. The signal caller also added 42 yards on the ground.
In addition to Taylor's effort, Joshua Thurston paced the Bulldogs rushing attack by accumulating 33 yards over the course of the game, averaging 11 yards per carry.
Taylor's most prolific target in the ballgame was Antwain Banks, who caught two passes for 57 yards and one score.
Shawan Lewis showed out for the Bowie State defense, recording 2.0 TFL and one sack.
BSU's offense did a good job keeping drives alive, converting on 55.6 percent of third-down attempts going 10-for-18 on the day.
The Bulldogs' defense held up against Davenport's offense, giving up 210 total yards.
How It Happened
BSU responded to an early 10-0 Davenport lead with a second-quarter touchdown to narrow the deficit to 10-7. Davenport increased its lead to 17-7, but the Bulldogs answered with a touchdown to close the gap to 17-14. Neither team scored again in the game.
