BOWIE, MD -- Bowie State used a big 207-yard output on the ground and two rushing touchdowns to pick up a 31-17 win against Livingstone in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) matchup on Saturday afternoon at home at Bulldog Stadium.
The Bulldogs improved to 1-2 on the year and 1-0 in CIAA play, while the Blue Bears fell to 2-2 and 0-1 in league action.
Kevin Taylor led BSU's passing attack with 145 yards through the air, tossing two touchdowns and one interception. The signal caller also added 47 yards and one touchdown on the ground.
Micah Robinson paced the Bulldogs rushing attack by accumulating 71 yards throughout the game, averaging 5.9 yards per carry. Curtis Murray also added 48 yards on the ground, averaging 4.4 yards per carry while Joseph Towler reeled in four catches for 64 yards and one touchdown on the day.
Mekhi Williams showed out for the Bulldogs defense, recording eight tackles, 1.0 TFL, and two interceptions while Jordan Williams added one interception in the win.
The Bulldogs won the turnover battle in Saturday's game, forcing three turnovers while coughing the ball up two times, with Bowie State turning those takeaways into 14 points. BSU had a big outing on the ground, totaling 207 rushing yards while averaging 4.1 yards per carry and out-rushing Livingstone by 65 yards.
Defensively, the Bulldogs held up fairly well against the LC offensive attack, holding the Blue Bears to 250 total yards. Bowie State kept Livingstone under 150 yards on both the ground and through the air, allowing 108 passing and 142 rushing yards. BSU's defense disrupted the Livingstone passing attack on the way to recording three interceptions and breaking up two Blue Bears passes.
How It Happened
Bowie State grabbed a 3-0 lead over Livingstone after scoring the game's first points on the opening drive of the game. Another Bulldogs score then expanded the lead to 10-0.
BSU continued to build its lead, scoring again with 9:00 left in the second quarter to go ahead 17-0. Livingstone came back to even the game at 17-17, but the Bulldogs answered back with a 34-yard touchdown pass from Taylor to Towler to jump back ahead 24-17.
The Bulldogs continued to increase its lead, scoring again with 1:51 left in the fourth quarter to go ahead 31-17. Neither team scored again in the game.
