Bulldogs Fall in 4-Set Match to Virginia State

BOWIE, MD --The Bowie State women's volleyball team fell to the Virginia State Trojans (3-4, 1-0 CIAA) in four sets (17-25, 19-25, 25-20, 14-25) Thursday at home inside A.C. Jordan Arena for its Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) opener. The loss dropped Bowie State's record to 2-10 overall and 0-1 in CIAA action.

Nicole Taylor finished with eight kills on the day to lead the Bulldogs attack. Defensively, two players reach double figures in digs as Taylor Johnson had 13 and Ayana Johnson had 11.

» A. Johnson had a team-high two aces in the loss.
» BSU never trailed on the way to winning the third set 25-20.
» Taylor had a team-high eight kills for Bowie State.
» BSU got a team-high 13 digs from T. Johnson.
» Bowie State attackers were helped by a team-high 16 assists from Trinity Loundmon.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Bulldogs found themselves in an early hole, losing a tough first set 25-17. Bowie State trailed by as many as nine points as VSU grabbed the advantage for good at 2-1 in a set that was tied up just once before the Trojans took control.

SET 2 | BSU lost set two 25-19, digging a 2-0 deficit in the match. The Bulldogs fell behind on the first point and fought from behind the rest of the way before dropping the set.

SET 3 | Bowie State stayed alive after a victory in the third set to make it a 2-1 match. The Bulldogs scored first and never trailed in the set to secure a 25-20 victory. BSU opened up as much as a six-point lead at 20-14 before closing out the set, collecting 15 kills while only registering one attack error in the process.

SET 4 | BSU could not keep the rally going and fell in the fourth set 25-14 to drop the match. The Bulldogs dropped the first point and never took the lead before falling in the set.

The Bulldogs will stay home to host Elizabeth City State on Monday, Sept. 30 at 6 p.m. inside A.C. Jordan Arena.
