BOWIE, MD – The Bowie State women's basketball team will host a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) matchup against foe the Shaw University Lady Bears at home on Thursday, Jan, 9 for its themed Pajama Day inside the A.C. Jordan Arena. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m., concluding the afternoon's doubleheader action.
The game will be broadcast live on the Bulldog Sports Network.

Clear Bag Policy
Fans will only be able to carry the following style and size bag into the stadium all of which are subject to search.
• Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC and do not exceed 12" x 6" x 12"
• One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar)
• Small clutch bags, measuring 4.5" x 6.5" with or without a handle or strap
• All other bags will not be permitted. A list of prohibited bags includes but is not limited to: purses, backpacks, drawstring bags that are not clear, briefcases, coolers, fanny packs, luggage, computer bags, camera bags, binocular cases, and diaper bags. Guests are encouraged to return unauthorized items to their vehicles. Bowie State University cannot safeguard items that are not permitted into the stadium.

The Series
Last Whistle
The Bulldogs (10-5, 4-1 CIAA) lost its last outing against CIAA opponent Fayetteville State University (8-5, 3-1 CIAA) at home this past Saturday. Destiny Ryles led the charge posting 17 points, three rebounds, and four steals. Shelby Ricks added 10 points and Sydney Anthony contributed 10 points and three steals off the bench.
Bowie State shot 64.7 percent from the free-throw line, converting 22 of 34 attempts. The Bulldogs capitalized on offensive rebounds, scoring six second-chance points in the loss.
Second-Chance Success
The Bulldogs have tallied over 10 offensive rebounds in 11 games this season, outperforming their opponents with a rebound margin of +39. Paint protector Beulah Odiong leads the team in rebounds per game averaging 7.7. On the offensive glass, she averages 3.0 rebounds per outing, racking up 45 offensive rebounds on the season. Odiong ranks 10th in the conference in rebounding. Board snatcher Kristin Sterling averages 1.5 offensive rebounds per game, recording 22 on the season. Sterling had a season-high seven offensive rebounds off the bench against Bloomfield. Glass cleaner Mayah Garner averages 1.2 offensive rebounds per outing, tallying 18 on the season. Garner has recorded at least one offensive rebound in all but four games this season. BSU averages 37.0 rebounds per game with a total of 211 offensive boards on the season. Bowie State ranks fifth in the conference in team offensive rebounds averaging 13.7 per outing.
About Shaw
Shaw enters Thursday's match (5-8, 2-2 CIAA) following a loss against CIAA foe Lincoln (PA) University, 89-78 on the road Jan. 4. D'Ayzha Akinson led the Lady Bears with a season-high 24 points and three rebounds off the bench, while Mikyah Finley helped with a season-high 19 points. Shaw outscored Lincoln 35-6 in bench points in the loss.
This is head coach Jacques Curtis's 23rd season with Shaw, as the Lady Bears went 14-15 overall and 8-10 in the conference during the 2023-24 season. SU was selected to finish ninth in the CIAA Preseason Poll.
Through 14 games, Shaw is averaging 61.4 points, 40.5 rebounds, 13.9 assists, and 9.2 steals this season. Zaniyyah Ross-Barnes leads the team, averaging 11.6 points per game and on the defensive end leads the team in rebounds averaging 8.2 per outing. Kiara Shepherd is the team's passer averaging 2.2 assists per game and leads the team in steals averaging 1.9 steals per outing. Mahogany Collins owns 3.8 blocks per outing. Shaw ranks first in blocked shots and second in combined team rebounds, respectively.

Bowie State will hit the road to face CIAA rival Lincoln University (PA) in a division matchup on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 2:00 p.m. at Oxford Area High School in Oxford, Pa.
