BOWIE, MD – The Bowie State volleyball team(6-13, 3-4 CIAA, 2-3 North) battled throughout the night but came up short against Bluefield State (9-12, 6-1 CIAA, 3-1 North), falling in straight sets Monday evening inside A.C. Jordan Arena.
Bowie State came out strong in the opening set, jumping ahead 4-0 behind kills from
Lyric Snowden, Nicole Taylor, and
Melisa Anacius, with
Mekenna Scott setting the tone early with precise assists. Despite the fast start, Bluefield State rallied to even the score at 6-6 before taking control midway through the set. The Bulldogs stayed within reach with key kills from Taylor and
Abena Asomani-Martin, but the Big Blue used a string of aces and attack errors to close out the frame, 25-17.
In the second set, BSU showed resilience after falling behind early. The Bulldogs responded with a five-point surge, highlighted by a service ace from Scott and strong net play from Taylor and Snowden to take an 11-5 lead. B-State, however, clawed back to tie things up at 17-all. Despite a late push that included a Snowden kill and several defensive stops, Bowie State couldn't hold off the Big Blue momentum as B-State edged out a 25-22 win.
The third set opened with the Big Blue jumping out to a quick 5-0 advantage. The Bulldogs fought to recover, earning points from a Snowden kill and a block by Taylor and Asomani-Martin, but unforced errors allowed the visitors to maintain their lead. Bowie State continued to show fight late in the frame with another strong block from
Nadira Avery and
Asomani-Martin, yet Bluefield State held firm to close out the set, 25-18.

The Bulldogs will stay home on Friday, Oct. 17, for a divisional matchup against Elizabeth City State inside A.C. Jordan Arena.
