The Series
Saturday's matchup marks the third meeting between Bowie State and Bluefield State since 2023, with the Bulldogs holding a 2-0 advantage in the series. Over the past two meetings, Bowie State has dominated on both sides of the ball, outscoring the Big Blue 94-11. The Bulldogs showcased their strength in last year's Homecoming matchup, delivering a commanding 54-0 shutout victory at Bulldog Stadium.

Scouting the Bulldogs
Bowie State enters the matchup averaging 316.0 yards of total offense per game while allowing 321.5. The Bulldogs' offense is balanced, led by quarterbacks Kevin Taylor and Malakai Anthony, who have combined for 1,131 passing yards and seven touchdowns with just two interceptions. Joseph Towler is the top target with 305 receiving yards, while Challenger Valentine (213 yards) and Ty Lyles (128 yards) provide steady secondary options. On the ground, Micah Robinson (380 yards) and Maximus Jones (314 yards) pace the rushing attack.
Defensively, Samuel Graham leads the team with 51 tackles, including 2.5 tackles for loss, a sack, and a 53-yard fumble return touchdown. Jamal Jones has been a force up front with 11.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks, while Moses Sarweh adds 33 tackles and 4.5 tackles for loss.
Special teams continue to be a bright spot, highlighted by kicker Chris Coleman's 8-of-14 field goals with a long of 35 yards and Ty Lyles' 28.8-yard kickoff return average that ranks among the league's best.
Scouting Bluefield State
Bluefield State enters the matchup 3-3 overall and 2-1 in CIAA play under second-year head coach Davon Morgan. The Big Blue sit fourth in the CIAA standings, showing clear progress in Morgan's second season.
B-State features one of the league's top passing attacks, ranking third in the CIAA at 212.3 yards per game. Quarterback Brice Koontz has thrown for 866 yards and nine touchdowns, while Wesley Thompson adds 381 yards and three scores. Brandon Wiley, the CIAA's top-ranked receiver, leads the team with 425 yards and seven touchdowns, followed by Julian Crawley (250 yds, 3 TDs) and RJ Hairston (215 yds, 1 TD). Tyler Wilson leads the ground game with 253 rushing yards.
Defensively, Mike Riley and Kamaree Wells pace the team with 43 tackles each, while Rashad Muhammad has tallied 6.5 tackles for loss and two sacks. Zaire Riley adds two interceptions, including one for a touchdown.
Special teams have been a major strength, ranking first in the CIAA in both punt returns and field goals. Ja'Shawn Harris leads the league with a 25.6-yard punt return average and two touchdowns, and Danny Dales is perfect on the season, hitting all five field goal attempts and 15 of 18 PATs.
