BOWIE, MD – The Bowie State women's volleyball team (11-15) battled Millersville University in a five-set thriller on Tuesday night inside A.C. Jordan Arena, falling just short in a 3-2 decision (25-22, 19-25, 25-12, 16-25, 13-15).
Bowie State opened the night strong, rallying from an early deficit to take the first set 25-22.
Melisa Anacius got the Bulldogs on the board with a kill assisted by
Mekenna Scott, while
Iman Wright delivered back-to-back service aces to spark momentum.
Taylor Johnson added a clutch ace down the stretch as BSU capitalized on a Millersville miscue to close out the set.
After dropping the second, the Bulldogs dominated the third set in commanding fashion. Behind a balanced attack and sharp serving, BSU exploded for a 25-12 win, recording 12 kills and four service aces in the frame. Scott orchestrated the offense with precision, while kills from
Nicole Taylor,
Nadira Avery, and
Lyric Snowden fueled the charge.
Abena Asomani-Martin's ace extended the lead to double digits before
Madyson Brinson's kill sealed the set for the Bulldogs.
The final two frames were neck and neck. The Bulldogs fought through a tough fourth set and mounted an impressive comeback in the fifth, rallying from a 6-1 deficit to tie the score at 11-11 behind clutch plays from Edwards and Asomani-Martin.
