FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Bowie State women's volleyball team (6-11, 3-2 CIAA) picked up a dominant sweep over Livingstone (7-6, 2-3 CIAA) Saturday at the CIAA Round-Up, winning in straight sets by scores of 25-22, 25-23, and 25-11 inside Felton J. Capel Arena.
Bowie State opened the first set with strong defensive play, highlighted by a block from Nina Edwards and Nicole Taylor to grab early momentum. Behind steady kills from Edwards and Taylor, along with timely assists from Trinity Loundmon, the Bulldogs built a 13-9 lead. Livingstone mounted a late push, but Lyric Snowden sealed the set with a kill to give BSU the 25-22 victory.
In the second set, Bowie State's offense came alive once again, led by Edwards and Snowden. With setter Mekenna Scott distributing effectively, the Bulldogs gained a slim edge despite several ties down the stretch. Locked in a 19-19 battle, Edwards delivered when it mattered most, powering BSU to a 25-23 win and a 2-0 match lead.
The Bulldogs wasted no time in the third set, opening with a 6-0 run that featured kills from Taylor and a service ace from Scott. Edwards and Abena Asomani-Martin continued to attack at the net while Wright and Melisa Anacius anchored the defense with key blocks. Bowie State controlled the frame from start to finish, closing out the 25-11 set on a kill from Corey Bradley to complete the sweep.
