Late Rally Falls Short as Bowie State Drops 76-73 Battle to West Chester

BOWIE, MD — The Bowie State men's basketball team (0-2) came up just short in a tight battle at A.C. Jordan Arena on Saturday, falling 76-73 to West Chester.

Despite forcing nine steals and knocking down timely shots throughout the afternoon, the Bulldogs were unable to overcome the Golden Rams' 42 points in the paint.

Bowie State opened the game with energy as Jaiden McGhee knocked down a jumper seconds into the contest. After WCU answered with a series of early dunks, the Bulldogs settled in behind the play of Charles Thomas III, who buried a three-pointer at the 2:58 mark to give BSU the lead. Bowie State took a 40-38 advantage into halftime after weathering a late WCU push, including a three-pointer by Dylan Blair with seven seconds remaining.

The Bulldogs continued to battle in the second half, with Amadou Kaloga connecting from deep just 21 seconds in to extend the lead. West Chester responded with fast-break opportunities that trimmed the margin. The teams traded leads throughout the period, including a Blair three-pointer at 15:26 that put WCU back in front. In the final minute, two free throws from Ruben Rodriguez gave West Chester a 74-71 edge with 26 seconds remaining. Bowie State's late attempt to tie the game came up short, and the Golden Rams escaped with the win.
