BLUEFIELD, W.V. – The Bowie State women's volleyball team (11-17, 7-7 CIAA, 3-5 North) dropped a straight-sets match (25-21, 25-18, 25-22) to Bluefield State on Monday night at the Ned Shott Gymnasium. The Bulldogs recorded 37 total kills in the contest, highlighted by efficient hitting from
Nicole Taylor and
Nina Edwards.
Bowie State opened the first set strong, with Taylor recording the first point on a kill assisted by
Taylor Johnson. The Bulldogs kept pace early with key contributions from
Lyric Snowden and Edwards, but a series of mid-set errors allowed Bluefield State to take control. Despite a late push led by kills from
Madyson Brinson and
Melisa Anacius, the Big Blue held on to win the opener, 25-21.
The Bulldogs carried their momentum into the second set, opening on a four-point run behind Snowden and Edwards' strong play at the net. However, Bluefield State responded with a surge of offense powered by Allyson Martin and Kaileigh Solis to swing the momentum. Despite Bowie State's early control, the Big Blue closed the frame with a 25-18 victory.
In the third set, BSU jumped ahead early with kills from Taylor and steady setting from
Mekenna Scott. The Bulldogs battled to a 21-21 tie thanks to clutch plays from Snowden, including a service ace that kept BSU within reach. However, Bluefield State capitalized late, taking the final three points to secure the 25-22 win and complete the sweep.
