BOWIE, MD – The Bowie State University volleyball team (12-17, 8-7 CIAA, 4-5 North) closed out Thursday night in dominant fashion, sweeping Lincoln (PA) by set scores of 25-21, 25-16, and 25-18 inside A.C. Jordan Arena.
The Bulldogs' defense anchored the victory with 46 total digs, while the offense clicked behind strong performances from multiple players. The night was also highlighted by a major career milestone as setter
Mekenna Scott surpassed 1,000 career assists, marking a significant achievement in her Bowie State career.
Bowie State came out strong in the opening set, capitalizing on early Lincoln (PA) miscues and key plays from
Nicole Taylor and
Melisa Anacius to take an early 2-0 lead. Midway through the set, the Bulldogs pulled away 19-11 behind several kills from
Nina Edwards and
Abena Asomani-Martin. The Lady Lions attempted to rally late, but a final block from Asomani-Martin sealed the set, 25-21.
The Bulldogs faced early adversity in the second set as LUPA jumped ahead 5-0, but BSU quickly found its rhythm. Kills from
Lyric Snowden and Taylor sparked a 6-0 run to tie things up. From there, Bowie State took control, aided by strong serving and defensive play. With Snowden and Asomani-Martin leading the charge offensively, the Bulldogs rolled to a 25-16 set win.
In the third set, Bowie State wasted no time closing things out. Early kills from Taylor and Edwards helped BSU build a quick lead that grew to 17-7. Despite a short Lincoln (PA) rally, the Bulldogs maintained composure and finished strong clinching the match on a LUPA serving error to secure the 25-18 win and 3-0 sweep.
