BOWIE, MD—The Bowie State men's basketball team continues its five-game road swing in a Central Intercollegiate Athletics Association (CIAA) matchup against Virginia Union University on Thursday, Feb. 13, at 7:30 p.m. inside Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va. This will be the nightcap game of a doubleheader featuring the women's game beginning at 5:30 p.m.
The doubleheader will be streamed live on the CIAA Sports Network.

Scouting Bowie State
Bowie State (14-10, 6-6 CIAA, 4-2 North) has accumulated a five-game win streak, which ties the team's longest winning streak since the 2019-2020 season. BSU is a scrappy team whose resilient nature has willed them to win 10 games with a margin of five or fewer points. The Bulldogs are ranked second in the CIAA in blocks per game (4.79) while being ranked fourth in steals per game (9.13). BSU also shares the ball well, as they are ranked third in the conference in assists per game (14.54). Bowie State's leading scorer and rebounder is Amare Wimbush, who averages 11.8 ppg and six rebounds. Elijah Davis' 5.2 assists per game is ranked third in the CIAA. Davis also is ranked second in the conference in steals per game (2.1).
Last Time Out for the Bulldogs
The Bulldogs secured a gritty win against Elizabeth City State, 78-74 inside R.L. Vaughan Center in Elizabeth City, NC. Amare Wimbush led BSU, scoring 20 points while grabbing eight rebounds and three assists. Davis almost notched a double-double with 15 points and nine assists. Bowie State also had two other double-digit performers, with Victory Naboya and Justin Morrisey scoring 10 points each, respectively. Bowie State dominated down low, scoring 40 points inside the paint. They also played fast, getting out in transition well and scoring 24 fastbreak points compared to the Vikings' 15. BSU also shot 4-4 from the three-point line in the second half, making it the first time all season Bowie State has had a perfect half from behind the arc.
Scouting Virginia Union
Virginia Union (11-11, 5-5 CIAA, 3-3 North) is looking to snap the team's two-game skid ahead of Thursday's matchup. The Panthers have one of the best defenses in the conference, holding opponents to 69.6 points per game. VUU also terrorizes offenses, averaging 9.68 steals per game. Tahj Harding leads the team in scoring, averaging 15.8 ppg, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.1 assists. DJ Mitchell is second on the team in scoring, averaging 12.8 ppg, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.2 steals defensively.
Last Time Out for the Panthers
The Panthers dropped their last matchup against Bluefield State 97-83 inside Ned Shott Gymnasium in Bluefield, WV. Mitchell lit up the scoreboard despite the loss, tallying 24 points while shooting 50 percent from the field. VUU also had two other 20-point performers as Bobby Gardner scored 21 and Jonathan King pitched in with 20. Virginia Union held on to the ball well, only having 10 turnovers while forcing 13 mistakes by Bluefield State. The Panthers found success inside the paint, scoring 52 points down low. VUU also capitalized on turnovers, with 19 points off turnovers.
