Bulldogs Last Time Out
Bowie State dropped both games against Frostburg State, falling 7-3 in the opener and 14-7 in the nightcap on Sunday, Mar. 9 in Frostburg, Md.
In the first game, senior Lindsey George hit a two-run homer to give the Bulldogs an early lead, but FSU responded and added four late runs to secure the win. Sophomore Ariana Ellerson contributed an RBI single for Bowie State.
During game two, the Bulldogs fell behind 7-0 but rallied with a four-run fifth inning and an RBI triple from the senior Jayla Hill to make it 10-7. However, Frostburg State pulled away with four more runs in the sixth inning to close out the victory.
About Bowie State
The Bulldogs have shown flashes of offensive strength this season, posting a .271 team batting average. Sophomore Presleigh Braxton has been a key performer, leading the team with a .441 average, 15 hits, and six stolen bases, while Hill provides power with a .400 batting average, two home runs, and a .733 slugging percentage. Junior Coreena Dunham adds consistency, hitting .364 with six doubles and two home runs.
Defensively, Ellerson has been a reliable presence with a perfect fielding percentage. In the circle, freshman Ryalee Dillard has been a steady contributor, earning two wins with a 5.17 ERA.
Raiders Last Time Out
Shippensburg had a tough doubleheader against Pace, dropping both contests 0-5 and 8-14, on Saturday, Mar. 1, in Shippensburg, Pa., at Robb Field.
During game one, the Raiders struggled offensively, getting shut out in a 5-0 loss. Despite collecting four hits, SU couldn't push any runs across against Pace's Gisselle Garcia, who struck out 12 in a complete-game performance. Caitlyn Martell had a solid showing at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double, while Alicia Ball took the loss in the circle, allowing five earned runs over 6.2 innings.
Game two saw a more explosive effort from the Raiders, but they ultimately fell 14-8 in a high-scoring affair. Shippensburg briefly led after a five-run third inning, highlighted by a two-run homer from Rilee Ehrlacher and an RBI double from Martell. However, Pace responded with consistent scoring across multiple innings to reclaim control.
Scouting Shippensburg
The Raiders are 2-1 on the road this season, hitting .305 as a team, with 64 hits, 52 RBIs, and seven home runs. Martell leads the team with a .480 average with 12 hits, four doubles, a home run, and 12 RBIs. Emily Lafferty adds speed with a .400 hitting average and eight stolen bases, while Brie Wilmot provides power with a .375 average, nine hits, and two home runs. The team has been aggressive on the bases, going 16-for-16 in stolen base attempts.
Defensively, Shippensburg has a .969 fielding percentage with three double plays and seven errors. The pitching staff holds a 5.69 ERA, allowing 74 hits and 52 runs over 51.2 innings. Madalyn Dyer has been the most reliable for the Raiders, going 3-0 with a 3.06 ERA in 16 innings, while Ball has 19 strikeouts in 15.2 innings but has yet to record a win. The staff has 34 strikeouts against 18 walks but has struggled with home runs, allowing 10 so far.
