BOWIE, MD -- The Bowie State softball team (3-9) came up short in both games of a non-conference doubleheader against the Shippensburg Raiders (6-4) on Tuesday, Mar. 11 as the Bulldogs dropped a 9-5 decision in the opener and a 10-2 setback in nightcap at BSU Softball Field.
Game One - Shippensburg 9, Bowie State 5
Lindsey George got the start for the Bulldogs and took the loss in the circle. Offensively, Taylor Dawkins led the Bulldogs, going 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk, and an RBI while Ariana Ellerson contributed a 1-for-2 performance, drawing two walks and driving in a run. Additionally, Presleigh Braxton added a double, finishing with one hit in four at-bats.
Trailing 5-0, BSU got on the board in the fifth inning with an RBI single from Jayla Hill, scoring Coreena Dunham from second.
After Shippensburg extended its lead to 8-1, the Bulldogs responded in the sixth, adding two runs, including a solo home run by Dawkins to cut the deficit to 8-3.
The Raiders made it 9-3 before Bowie State rallied again in the seventh, scoring twice to make it 9-5. However, the Bulldogs couldn't complete the comeback, as neither team scored the rest of the way.
Game Two - Shippensburg 10, Bowie State 2
The Bulldogs struck early in Game 2, tying the score at 1-1 in the first inning when Dunham came around to cross the plate.
Shippensburg regained control and built a commanding lead before the Bulldogs struck again in the fifth. Dunham ripped a one-out RBI double to make it 10-2, but Bowie State could not add more runs, as neither team scored the rest of the way.

The Bulldogs will travel to Millersville, Pa., on Thursday, March 13 for a doubleheader against Millersville University at Seaber Softball Stadium. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
