Bowie State Softball Heads to Millersville for Midweek Doubleheader

BOWIE, MD. – The Bowie State softball team (3-10) will travel to Millersville University (13-3), for a midweek non-conference matchup on Thursday afternoon. The Bulldogs will play the doubleheader with games at 1 p.m and 3 p.m. at Seaber Softball Stadium in Millersville, Pa.

Bulldogs Last Time Out
The Bulldogs battled in a non-conference doubleheader against Shippensburg but fell short, dropping the opener 9-5 and the nightcap 10-2 at BSU Softball Field Tuesday.

In game one, Lindsey George took the loss in the circle, while Taylor Dawkins led the offense, going 2-for-3 with a home run and an RBI. Ariana Ellerson contributed with a hit, two walks, and an RBI, while Presleigh Braxton added a double. Bowie State chipped away at a 5-0 deficit, scoring in the fifth on a Jayla Hill RBI single. Dawkins' solo home run in the sixth helped cut the gap, but the Bulldogs' late push fell short.

In game two, BSU got on the board early, tying the game 1-1 in the first inning when Coreena Dunham scored. Dunham later added an RBI double in the fifth, but Shippensburg built a strong lead that the Bulldogs couldn't overcome.

About Bowie State
The Bulldogs have shown potential this season, signifying offensive firepower with a .274 team batting average. Sophomore Braxton has been a standout performer, leading the team with a .425 batting clip, 17 hits, and six stolen bases. Dunham has provided power, hitting .375 with seven doubles, two home runs, and a .700 slugging percentage. Hill adds further offensive depth with a .371 batting average, two home runs, and a .657 slugging percentage.

Defensively, Ellerson has been a steady presence with a perfect fielding percentage. In the circle, freshman Ryalee Dillard has been a key contributor, securing two wins with a 4.96 ERA over 24 innings pitched.

Millersville Last Outing
The Marauders wrapped up their road trip on a high note with 7-0 and 5-2 wins over Shaw on Monday afternoon in Raleigh, N.C.

In the circle, Angelina Saverase and Delaney Troxell combined for a shutout in game one, while Angelina Edwards and Jocelyn Langer provided key hits, with Langer recording four hits in the game.

In game two, Millersville used small ball to score three runs in the second inning. Nicolina Pezzone pitched four scoreless innings, retiring the last 10 batters she faced. Cameron Witte's two-RBI single in the seventh extended the lead, and Pezzone returned to secure her sixth win of the season.

Scouting Millersville
A member of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), the Marauders have been in great form, winning 13 of their last 14 games while posting a .342 team batting average. Langer leads the team with a .542 average, 26 hits, and 11 RBIs. Kendra Bumgardner has contributed with a .419 average, three doubles, and a home run, while Edwards has added 20 hits, two home runs, and 24 RBIs.

Defensively, Edwards has been reliable with a perfect fielding percentage. In the circle, Pezzone has been effective, holding a 6-0 record with a 0.66 ERA over 31.2 innings.

The Bulldogs will return home for an action-packed weekend, hosting PSAC members Mansfield University on Saturday, Mar. 15, and Bloomsburg University on Sunday, Mar. 16 at 12 Both games will take place at BSU Softball Field.
