BOWIE, MD – The Bowie State softball team (4-11) returns home to host Mansfield University (2-4), for a non-conference matchup on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs will play a doubleheader with games slated for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at BSU Softball Field.

Bulldogs Last Time Out
Bowie State softball battled hard in their doubleheader against Millersville, splitting the series with a 3-2 loss in game one before bouncing back with a 2-1 victory in game two at Seaber Softball Stadium in Millersville, Pa.
In the first game, the Bulldogs took an early lead in the third inning thanks to RBI doubles from Jayla Hill and Taylor Dawkins. However, Millersville responded with three runs over the final four innings to claim the win. Despite the loss, pitcher Lindsey George put in a solid performance with five strikeouts over five innings.
Game two saw Bowie State turn the tables, with Ryalee Dillard delivering a strong five-inning performance, allowing just one run on two hits. Sydney Seals provided two scoreless innings of relief to close it out. The Bulldogs' key moment came in the fifth inning when George's two-run single brought home Margaret-Malaika Weavers and Dawkins to give BSU a 2-0 lead. They held on for the 2-1 victory, improving to 4-11 on the season.
About Bowie State
Sophomore Presleigh Braxton has been a key player, leading the team with a .362 batting average, 17 hits, and six stolen bases. Coreena Dunham has posted a .348 average with seven doubles, two home runs, and a .630 slugging percentage while Jayla Hill has also been a strong contributor, hitting .341 with two home runs and a .610 slugging percentage.
Defensively, Ariana Ellerson has been a reliable presence, maintaining a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage. In the pitching circle, freshman Ryalee Dillard has made an impact, earning three wins with a 4.34 ERA over 29 innings pitched.
Mansfield Last Outing
The Mountaineers split their doubleheader against Lincoln (PA) on Saturday afternoon, taking game one 4-1 before falling 10-9 in extra innings in game two.
In the circle, Annabella Putnam delivered a dominant performance in game one, striking out a career-high 12 batters in a complete-game effort while allowing just one earned run. Offensively, Caydence Macik and Alex Reisinger provided key hits, and a sacrifice fly in the seventh secured the victory.
Game two turned into an offensive battle, with Mansfield rallying multiple times. Rachel Sherman hit her first career home run, while Sarah Shupp led the lineup with three hits and a career-high five RBIs. The Mounties took a 9-7 lead in extra innings, but Lincoln (PA) responded with a walk-off two-run double to steal the 10-9 win.
Scouting Mansfield
A member of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), Mansfield has had a challenging start to the season, posting a 2-4 record while hitting .258 as a team. Sarah Shupp leads the offensive effort with a .368 average, seven hits, and six RBIs. Madison Bailey has been productive with a .429 average and a .571 slugging percentage, while Melissa Demo adds speed to the lineup, batting .300 with three stolen bases.
Defensively, catcher Kylie Bornman has been a steady presence behind the plate with a perfect fielding percentage and has thrown out one base runner. In the circle, Annabella Putnam has been the standout arm, holding a 2-1 record with a 1.75 ERA over 20 innings, striking out 24 while limiting opponents to a .224 batting average.

The Bulldogs are set to return to action on Sunday, March 16, when they host PSAC opponent Bloomsburg University for a doubleheader at BSU Softball Field. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 10 a.m.
