Bulldogs Drop Doubleheader Against Bloomsburg Sunday Afternoon

BOWIE, MD --The Bowie State softball team (6-13) had a tough showing in the Sunday afternoon doubleheader, falling to Bloomsburg University (9-3) in game one 16-2, and game two 6-3 at the Bulldog Softball Field.

Lindsey George (1-8) got the start in the circle for Bowie State and took the loss.

The Bulldogs were trailing 9-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Taylor Dawkins put BSU on the board with a leadoff home run off Callie Sowers.

Bloomsburg (Pa.) expanded their lead to 16-1 before the Bulldogs offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the fifth. The Bulldogs picked up a run on Margaret-Malaika Weaver's two-out solo home run off of Sowers, bringing the Husky's lead to 16-2. BSU was unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.

GAME 2 | Bloomsburg 6, Bowie State 3
The Bulldogs got a boost from Jayla Hill in game two as she tallied two extra-base hits in a 6-3 loss to the Huskies Sunday afternoon.

Sydney Seals (0-3) took the loss in the circle for Bowie State.

Hill's two extra-base hits were the highlight of a 2-for-4 day, which included a double and a two-run home run. Weaver carried her positive momentum from the first game, going 2-for-3 with a solo home run. Presleigh Braxton also contributed for BSU, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while showing off the speed for her second triple of the season.

Trailing 3-0, the Bulldogs fought back in the second inning as Weaver put Bowie State on the board with a leadoff home run off Sarah Yamrick.

BSU kept the deficit at 3-1 before tying the score in the fifth on Hill's two-run homer, which evened the score at 3-3. Bloomsburg (PA) then scored three times over the remaining two innings to break the tie and grab the 6-3 win.

Bowie State is set to begin Central Intercollegiate Athletics Association (CIAA) play on Mar. 20-22 for the CIAA Round-Up at Walnut Creek Softball Complex in Raleigh, NC. The Bulldogs will face Claflin University to open up the round-up with the first pitch slated for 3:30 p.m. on Mar. 20.
