BOWIE, MD – The Bowie State softball team (11-13, 5-0 CIAA) travels to Hampton, Va., for a non-conference matchup on Tuesday, Mar. 25 against Division I opponent Hampton University (9-17, 2-6 CAA). The Bulldogs will play a doubleheader with games slated for noon and 2 p.m. at the Pirates Softball Stadium.

CIAA Round-Up Sweep
Bowie State dominated their recent stretch with five consecutive wins, combining explosive offense with strong pitching. They opened with a thrilling 8-7 extra-inning walk-off victory over Claflin, where Taylor Dawkins hit a game-tying home run in the seventh, and Santanna Puller sealed the win with a sacrifice fly in the ninth. The Bulldogs carried that momentum into a commanding 13-0 win against Fayetteville State, powered by Jayla Hill's two home runs as part of a four-homer performance for the team. Against Winston-Salem State, they secured a 9-3 victory, breaking the game open with a six-run third inning, highlighted by a three-run double from Sydney Seals.
The Bulldogs continued their dominance with a 12-1 rout of Livingstone, where Ryalee Dillard pitched two shutout innings while Dawkins and Hill led the offensive charge. Bowie State capped off the weekend with an 8-0 shutout win over Shaw, fueled by Lindsey George's stellar pitching and Coreena Dunham's leadoff home run. Across these five games, Bowie State's offense was relentless, delivering multiple home runs and big innings to complete a perfect stretch.
About Bowie State
Dunham has been a key player, leading the team with a .375 batting average, nine doubles, three home runs, and 15 RBIs while also swiping 17 bases. Hill has provided power at the plate, hitting .357 with six home runs, seven doubles, and a .743 slugging percentage. Presleigh Braxton has also been a strong contributor, batting .311 with five doubles, two triples, and 11 RBIs.
Defensively, Ariana Ellerson has been a reliable presence, maintaining a .980 fielding percentage while recording 95 putouts. In the pitching circle, Dillard has been a standout, earning six wins with a 3.27 ERA over 45 innings pitched. George has also been a key arm, logging 50.2 innings with three wins and a complete-game shutout.
Pirates Last Outing
The Hampton University softball team earned its second conference win with a 14-10 extra-inning victory over Drexel in Philadelphia, Pa.
Hampton struck early, with Kylie Hill's RBI single and Cassidy Lee's three-run homer giving the Pirates a 4-0 lead in the first. Drexel responded, taking a 6-4 lead by the second inning. The game remained scoreless until the seventh, when Hampton tied it 6-6 on Leah Maduro's clutch two-run single.
Both teams scored four in the ninth, but Hampton pulled away in the 10th. Hill's two-run homer, her second of the season, put the Pirates ahead, and back-to-back doubles sealed the win. Drexel managed a hit in the bottom half, but Hampton shut the door to secure the victory.
Scouting Hampton
A member of the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA), Hampton has had a tough start to the 2025 season, posting a 9-17 record while hitting .266 as a team. Carmynn Bonner leads the offensive effort with a .430 average, 37 hits, and 13 RBIs. Kylie Hill has been productive with a .345 average, five doubles, and 22 RBIs, while Cassidy Lee provides additional power, batting .247 with a home run and 11 RBIs.
Defensively, Santrea Armstead has been a reliable presence with a .986 fielding percentage, while Amani Johnson and Simone Singleton have yet to commit an error. In the circle, Jada Evans has been the most consistent arm, holding a 3-5 record with a 3.02 ERA over 50.2 innings, striking out 38 while limiting opponents to a .276 batting average.
