Bulldogs Last Timeout
The Bowie State softball team extended its conference dominance with a doubleheader sweep over Virginia State (6-11, 4-3 CIAA, 0-2 North) on Friday at the BSU Softball Field . During game one, George earned the win, tossing five innings with five strikeouts, while Coreena Dunham's two-run homer highlighted a four-run fourth inning as BSU secured a 7-3 victory.
In game two, Ryalee Dillard allowed just one run in five innings, while Bowie State's eight-run third inning - powered by Dunham's two-run single, sealed a 10-1 run-rule win.
The Bulldogs remain undefeated in CIAA play at 7-0 overall.
About Bowie State
The Bulldogs have had a strong start to the 2025 season, posting a 13-14 record while hitting .269 as a team. Dunham leads the offensive effort with a .373 average, 28 hits, 4 home runs, and 18 stolen bases, while Hill provides power, batting .363 with six home runs and 22 RBIs. Presleigh Braxton has also been a key contributor, hitting .317 with 7 stolen bases and 6 doubles.
Defensively, Dunham, and Braxton, have been standouts with great fielding percentages, while the team holds a .948 fielding percentage overall.
In the circle, Dillard has been the most reliable pitcher, holding a 7-1 record with a 2.94 ERA over 50.0 innings, striking out 38 while limiting opponents to a .273 batting average. George has also been solid, posting a 4-7 record with 49 strikeouts in 59.2 innings, while Sydney Seals leads the team with 3 saves in 12 appearances.
Lady Panthers Last Outing
The Virginia Union softball team edged Claflin University 8-7 in a thrilling finish at the CIAA Softball Roundup in Raleigh, N.C.
The Lady Panthers sealed the win in the bottom of the seventh when Nevaeh Johnson reached on an error. Kallie Garland followed with a walk, and Yonah Rogers delivered the game-winning single to left field, scoring Garland for the victory.
Scouting Virginia Union
Virginia Union has struggled early in the 2025 season, posting a 5-18 record while hitting .256 as a team. Johnson leads the offensive effort with a .349 average, 15 hits, and a .419 slugging percentage. Akhi Jenkins has been productive with a .300 average, 15 hits, and seven stolen bases, while Rogers bats .283 with six RBIs and three stolen bases. Jailyn Myrick has been a power threat in limited action, hitting .500 with two home runs and a .850 slugging percentage in five games.
Defensively, both Danae Goree and Skylar Rosenbalm hold a 1.000 fielding percentage, while Jailyn Myrick has also been perfect in the field. In the circle, Rogers has been the most consistent arm, posting a 6.21 ERA over 23.2 innings with six strikeouts, while limiting walks. Rosenbalm has worked 32.0 innings with a 6.78 ERA and 12 strikeouts, but struggles with control, issuing 23 walks. Brandy Roberts has logged the most innings (47.2) but has struggled with an 8.81 ERA and 60 earned runs allowed.
