Bulldogs Battle but Drop Doubleheader to Goldey-Beacom

WILMINGTON, DE – The Bowie State softball team (15-16) came up short in a doubleheader against Goldey-Beacom on Sunday, Mar. 30, falling 7-2 in the opener and 3-1 in the second game at the Jackson Athletic Complex.

Game One | Goldey-Beacom 7, Bowie State 2
Freshman Sydney Seals took the start in the circle for Bowie State but was charged with the loss. However, fellow freshman Makayla Drakeford provided a strong relief performance, tossing two shutout innings without surrendering a hit. She walked one and struck out three.

At the plate, sophomore Taylor Dawkins led the Bulldogs' offense, collecting three hits and an RBI. Sophomore Presleigh Braxton also had a solid day, going 1-for-2 with an RBI.

BSU wasted no time getting on the board, striking first with a run in the top of the first inning. Dawkins delivered an RBI single, scoring Braxton from second to give the Bulldogs an early lead.

However, GBC responded with a seven-run surge, taking a commanding 7-1 advantage. Bowie State attempted a late rally in the seventh, as Braxton drove in a run with an RBI single to trim the deficit to 7-2. Despite the effort, the Bulldogs' comeback bid fell short, sealing the Lightning's victory.

Game Two | Goldey-Beacom 3, Bowie State 1
Dawkins continued her strong performance at the plate in game two, going 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI, but Bowie State was unable to overcome an early deficit in a 3-1 loss.

Drakeford got the start once again and took the loss, while freshman Rylee Reid impressed out of the bullpen, tossing two scoreless innings and allowing just one hit.

The Bulldogs found themselves trailing 3-0 in the fifth when Dawkins delivered an RBI double to score Braxton, cutting the deficit to two. However, both teams remained scoreless the rest of the way, allowing the Lightning to secure the win.
