Bowie State Takes on Delaware State in Midweek Road Clash

BOWIE, MD – The Bowie State softball team (15-16) will be heading to game two of their three game road stretch to take on Division I opponent Delaware State on Wednesday, Apr. 2 at the Hornets' nest in Dover, Del. Game time is slated for 2 p.m.

Bulldogs Last Timeout
On Senior Day, Bowie State swept Virginia Union (5-20, 2-5 CIAA, 0-2 North) with 9-1 and 11-8 victories at BSU Softball Field.

Lindsey George dominated game one, striking out seven over six innings while allowing just one run on three hits. Jayla Hill's RBI double sparked the offense, followed by Coreena Dunham's two-run single and Mikayla Amos' first collegiate home run. Dunham's solo homer in the sixth sealed the win.

In game two, Ryalee Dillard earned the win with six strikeouts over five innings. Ja'chelle Mosley led the offense, going 3-for-4 with four RBIs, while Taylor Dawkins added a home run. A four-run sixth, highlighted by Mosley's two-run double, secured the victory despite a late push from Virginia Union.

About the Bowie State
Dunham powers the Bulldogs' lineup, batting .383 with 36 hits, five home runs, and 23 RBIs, while Hill (.352, 6 HR, 22 RBIs) and George (.325, 4 doubles, 6 stolen bases) add offensive depth. The team thrives on speed and aggressive baserunning, racking up 60 stolen bases. Defensively, Dunham, Hill, and George play key roles in maintaining the squad's solid .946 fielding percentage.

In the circle, Dillard (8-1, 3.05 ERA) leads the pitching rotation, with George (58 strikeouts over 67.2 innings) and Hall (2 saves) providing reliable support.

Hornets Last Outing
Delaware State took a 2-1 lead into the seventh but couldn't hold on, falling 3-2 to Norfolk State on Sunday, Mar. 30 at DSU Softball Field.

Kristin White went the distance, allowing three runs, two earned, on nine hits while striking out eight.

Analisse Santana had two hits and an RBI, while Mianna Lopez Del Haro added two hits, including a double. Emma Crowe also contributed with a double. Delaware State scored in the second and sixth innings, but Norfolk State's two late runs secured the comeback win.

Scouting Delaware State
The Delaware State Hornets post a 15-14 record with a team batting average of .282. Leading the offensive charge is Destiny Mitchell, who boasts a .375 average with 15 hits. Karly Cain provides power at the plate, hitting .333 with two doubles, a triple, and 16 RBIs, while Santana has been a key contributor, batting .323 with 21 hits and eight RBIs.

Defensively, Chandler Martin, Kaylie Noell, and others have been outstanding, maintaining perfect 1.000 fielding percentages and contributing to the team's overall .944 fielding percentage.

In the circle, Kaylanie Rodriguez has been the Hornets' most dependable arm, posting a 4-2 record with a 2.93 ERA over 40 innings, striking out 26 while holding opponents to a .310 batting average. Kristin White has also been a key part of the pitching staff, recording a 6-5 mark with a 3.53 ERA and 64 strikeouts in 63 innings.
