FROSTBURG, MD -- The Bowie State softball team (3-8) dropped both games of a non-conference doubleheader against Frostburg State on Sunday, Mar. 9 as the Bulldogs fell 7-3 in the opener before a late comeback attempt fell short in a 14-7 setback in game two at Bobcat Field.
GAME ONE - Frostburg State 7, Bowie State 3
The Bulldogs wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, striking for two runs in the top of the first inning. Senior Lindsey George delivered a powerful start, launching a two-run home run with Coreena Dunham aboard to give Bowie State an early 2-0 advantage.
Frostburg State responded by taking the lead, but the Bulldogs fought back in the sixth inning. Freshman Ariana Ellerson made her presence felt at the plate, driving in a run with an RBI single to cut the deficit to 4-3. Despite the late push, the Bobcats tacked on three more runs to secure the victory.
Offensively, George led Bowie State, going 1-for-2 with a home run, a walk, and two RBI. Ellerson also contributed with a 1-for-3 performance, adding an RBI.
GAME TWO - Frostburg State 14, Bowie State 7
The Bulldogs found themselves in an early 7-0 deficit before breaking through in the third inning when Kyla Richardson crossed the plate to put Bowie State on the board.
Frostburg State extended its lead to 10-1, but the Bulldogs continued to battle. Brooklyn Owens scored in the fourth inning, trimming the deficit to 10-2. The momentum carried into the fifth, where Bowie State put together a four-run rally, highlighted by a clutch two-run single from Owens, bringing the score to 10-6.
The Bulldogs kept the Bobcats off the board again in the sixth and continued to chip away at the lead. Jayla Hill delivered a key RBI triple, scoring Dunham to make it a 10-7 game. However, Frostburg State responded with four runs in the final innings to secure the victory.

The Bulldogs will host Shippensburg University for a mid-week non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday, Mar. 11, at 1 p.m. at the BSU Softball Field.
