Bowie State Welcomes Chestnut Hill College for Home Finale

BOWIE, MD – The Bowie State softball team (15-17, 9-0 CIAA, 4-0 North) will clash with non-conference foe Chestnut Hill College (12-22-1, 5-11 CACC) at the BSU Softball Field in Bowie, Md. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Bulldogs Last Timeout
The Bulldogs dropped a 3-0 decision to Delaware State on Wednesday (4/2) at the DSU Softball Field in Dover, Del. Lindsey George (5-8) took the loss, allowing three runs (one earned) on seven hits over six innings with five strikeouts.

Coreena Dunham went 1-for-2 with a walk, while the Bulldogs struggled offensively, stranding a key runner on third in the second inning. Despite battling to the final out, the Bulldogs ultimately couldn't break through.

About Bowie State
In conference play, the Bulldogs are riding a nine-game winning streak, making them the top-ranked team in the CIAA. BSU has been a force at the plate, boasting a team batting average of .265. Over 32 games, the Bulldogs have racked up 217 hits, 143 RBIs, and 21 home runs. Jayla Hill leads the team in home runs with six, followed closely by teammates Dunham and Dawkins, who have five each.

Bowie State also thrives on the base paths, stealing 62 bases with a 75% success rate. Dunham leads the team in steals, swiping 19 bags on 23 attempts.

In the circle, the pitching duo of Ryalee Dillard (8-1, 3.05 ERA) and George (5-8, 3.83 ERA) anchors the staff. Together, the pitching duo tallied 107 strikeouts, making it difficult for opponents to find their rhythm at the plate.

The Griffins Last Outing
Chestnut Hill College of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) split their last doubleheader against the Lions of Georgian Court University winning game one 5-2 while getting shutout in game two 10-0. 

Amaris Guzman excelled on the day tallying three hits while driving in one run in the doubleheader, while Isabelle Tetreault picked up a team-high sixth victory for CHC. 

Scouting Chesnut Hill College
Anastasia Watson leads the charge for the Griffins at the plate leading the team in batting average (.376), hits (32), and RBIs (19) on the season. Kayla Rolon is second on the team in batting average holding a steady .359 average while leading the team in doubles with nine on the season. 

Chesnut Hill maximizes at scoring when runners are on base with 109 of their 130 total runs being RBIs. The Griffins struggle defensively with 73 team errors but make the routine plays with a .921 fielding percentage.

The Bulldogs will return to Central Intercollegiate Athletics Association (CIAA) play as they travel to face Lions of Lincoln (PA) University on Friday, Apr. 18 in a doubleheader matchup at the LU Softball Complex in Lincoln University, Pa. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
