BOWIE, MD --The Bowie State Bulldogs (17-17) swept the visiting Griffins of Chestnut Hill (12-24-1) Monday afternoon for its home finale at the BSU Softball Field. The Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and never surrendered the advantage on the way to a 6-4 win during the opener while in the nightcap, freshman Taylor Dawkins collected four RBIs to help lead Bowie State past the Chestnut Hill Griffins, 9-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Senior Lindsey George (6-8) started in the circle and picked up the win for BSU. The right-hander went five shutout innings while giving up one hit, allowing three walks and striking out three. The Bulldogs got the scoring started early, putting two runs on the board in the bottom the first inning with the game still scoreless. Bowie State scored twice on a two-run double off the bat of freshman Mykhl Young. BSU then held the Griffins scoreless before expanding their lead in the third inning. The Bulldogs pushed across a run on sophomore Margaret-Malaika Weaver's two-out RBI double, which brought BSU's lead to 3-0.
Bowie State kept Chestnut Hill without a run before expanding their lead to 5-0 the following inning. The Bulldogs added two runs in the frame, the key hit being an RBI double from Dawkins. BSU kept the Griffins without a run before their offense got things rolling the next inning. Young crossed home plate with the lone run of the inning for the Bulldogs, bringing the score to 6-0 in favor of Bowie State. CHC put four runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Bulldogs still held on for the 6-4 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 2-0, the Bulldogs first put runs on the board in the first inning. Bowie State plated two runs when Braxton left the yard with senior Sydney Edmond aboard. The game remained tied until the fourth inning, when the Bulldogs got going again on offense. BSU scored three runs, all of them coming on a three-run homer off the bat of Dawkins, scoring sophomore Ryan Fraser and Amos, which brought the score to 5-2 in favor of the Bulldogs.
BSU kept CHC without a run before expanding their lead to 6-2 the following inning. The Bulldogs scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Dawkins. Bowie State kept the Griffins without a run before their offense got things rolling the next inning. The three-run frame for the Bulldogs was punctuated by a two-RBI double from Amos. bringing the score to 9-2 in favor of Bowie State. The score remained 9-2 for the rest of the game, as the Bulldogs coasted to the win.
Highlighted by Dawkins four RBIs in game two, freshman Sydney Seals (2-5) got the win for Bowie State. The right-hander went five innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on seven hits, allowing no walks and striking out three. Freshman Ryalee Dillard also pitched well, going two shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking three and striking out two.
Dawkins went 2-for-4 with a home run in addition to her four RBIs for the Bulldogs. Sophomore Presleigh Braxton put together a standout performance at the plate as well, going 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and two RBI. Freshman Mikayla Amos also chipped in for Bowie State, putting together one hit in one trip to the plate while adding a double, three walks and two RBI.
