Bulldogs Come Up Short Against Mountain Lions, Huskies

ETTRICK, VA — The Bowie State women's volleyball team (0-4, 0-0 CIAA) dropped both of its matches Saturday at the VSU Opening Weekend Invitational, falling in straight sets to Concord (4-0, 0-0 MEC) and in four sets to Bloomsburg (2-2, 0-0 PSAC).

GAME ONE | Concord, 3 - Bowie State, 0
SET 1 | Bowie State stayed close with kills from Nadira Avery and Abena Asomani-Martin, but Concord pulled away late behind Meg Williams to take the frame.

SET 2 | The Mountain Lions opened the second set on a 7-0 run sparked by Paige Richmond's serving. Avery, Madyson Brinson and Marissa Robinson helped trim the deficit, but CU held on for another 25-19 win.

SET 3 | Bowie State showed fight in the third with kills from Robinson, Nina Edwards and Asomani-Martin, but Concord extended its lead late and closed out the match, 25-18.

Nadira Avery: 5 kills on 10 attempts (.500) hitting percentage, 3 total blocks, 7 points.  
Taylor Johnson: eight digs, two assists, one service ace.
Nicole Taylor: five kills, eight digs, two block assists. 

GAME TWO | Bloomsburg, 3 - Bowie State, 0
SET 1 | BSU grabbed an early lead behind a service ace from Trinity Loundmon and kills from Nicole Taylor and Avery. Bloomsburg rallied midway through on a string of service aces and closed out a 25-19 win.

SET 2 | A service ace by Reece Culver and kills from Taylor and Avery kept the Bulldogs close in the second set. Bloomsburg pulled ahead late and secured the frame 25-20.

SET 3 | Bowie State responded in the third, holding off a late rally to win 26-24. Edwards and Marissa Robinson fueled the early run, while Asomani-Martin and Brinson combined for a key block. Brinson delivered the decisive kill before a Bloomsburg error ended the set.

SET 4 | The Huskies opened on a 3-0 run and maintained control despite late kills from Taylor and a block by Brinson and Avery. Jordan Pryor's serving helped Bloomsburg seal the match, 25-18.

Nina Edwards: nine kills on 17 attempts with a .412 hitting percentage, four blocks, 12.0 points.
Nicole Taylor: nine kills, four blocks, 12.5 points.

The Bulldogs will be on the road next weekend to compete in the 2025 Shannon Sullivan Memorial Tournament hosted by Kutztown University. First serve is set for Friday, Sept. 12, at 5 p.m. in Kutztown, PA.
