BOWIE, Md. — The Bowie State University women's tennis team has completed a United States Tennis Association (USTA) coaches training program in preparation for providing tennis instruction and mentorship to youth throughout the local community.
The training is an important step in preparing Bowie State student-athletes to take on coaching roles and introduce young people to the game of tennis. Upon completing all required program components, the Bowie State women's tennis team will receive a $3,000 USTA David Dinkins Grant, which will provide support for the program and its continued development.
The initiative represents an exciting opportunity for the Bulldogs to make a lasting impact beyond the court. By sharing their knowledge and passion for tennis, the student-athletes will help introduce youth to the sport, encourage participation, and create opportunities for young players to develop their skills in a positive and supportive environment.
In addition to growing the game of tennis, the program will allow Bowie State student-athletes to strengthen their leadership, communication, and mentorship skills. Working directly with youth will provide valuable experience as they serve as role models and help foster meaningful connections between the university and the surrounding community.
The USTA David Dinkins Grant will further support the women's tennis team's efforts to expand access to tennis and contribute to community engagement through sport.
For Bowie State women's tennis, the initiative is about more than learning how to coach. It is an opportunity to grow the game, develop future leaders, and strengthen the community by making tennis more accessible to the next generation.
