BOWIE, Md. — Bowie State University Athletics has welcomed Joey Constant as its new Media Relations Coordinator, bringing a familiar face back to the Bulldogs while adding a rising young professional with collegiate athletics experience, a strong storytelling background and a passion for serving student-athletes.
Constant joins Bowie State after spending the 2025–26 academic year at Howard Community College, where he served as an Assistant Sports Information and Game Operations Specialist. During his time with the Dragons, Constant worked across multiple sports, including women's volleyball, women's basketball and women's flag football. He was responsible for a wide range of athletic communications and game-day responsibilities, including statistics, game operations, media days, graphics, commentary and feature storytelling.
Constant's experience at Howard Community College provided an opportunity to develop as a versatile athletics communications professional while working directly with coaches, student-athletes and administrators. His work included producing written content for the Howard Community College Athletics website, with Constant serving as the author of multiple stories throughout the 2025–26 season.
A Return to Bowie State
Constant's return to Bowie State represents a full-circle moment in his developing career. A Bowie State alumnus, Constant attended the university from 2021 through 2025 before beginning his professional career in collegiate athletics. His connection to the university and its athletics department has remained an important part of his journey. Now, Constant returns to his alma mater in a full-time professional capacity, joining the Bowie State Athletics Media Relations staff as the department's Media Relations Coordinator. He is listed in the Bulldogs' official staff directory and will work from the Leonidas S. James Complex as part of the athletics department's media relations operation.
In his new role, Constant will assist with the promotion and coverage of Bowie State's athletic programs, including writing game stories and feature content, maintaining statistical information, coordinating media operations, developing digital content and supporting game-day media responsibilities. His previous experience has already demonstrated his ability to take on a variety of responsibilities within an athletic department. During his time at Howard Community College, Constant helped coordinate media days, handled game-day operations, served as a statistician and commentator, created graphics and produced written stories highlighting student-athletes and teams.
Making an Impact Beyond the Press Box
Constant's experience at Howard Community College extended beyond athletic communications. In addition to his sports information responsibilities, Constant served as an Assistant Coach for Howard Community College's women's flag football program during its inaugural season. The experience allowed him to develop his leadership skills from the coaching side while working directly with student-athletes and helping build a new program. His work with the Dragons coincided with a historic first season for Howard Community College women's flag football. The program earned the first victories in its history during the 2026 season, establishing a foundation for the future of the program. The combination of communications and coaching experience gives Constant a unique perspective as he begins his new role at Bowie State. His background allows him to understand collegiate athletics not only from the perspective of telling student-athletes' stories, but also from the perspective of working directly with them and helping them develop.
Building on a Strong Foundation
Constant enters the Bowie State Athletics Media Relations Office at an exciting time for the Bulldogs, with the department continuing to expand its digital presence and enhance coverage across its athletic programs. His familiarity with Bowie State, combined with the professional experience gained at Howard Community College, positions him to make an immediate impact. He has already demonstrated a willingness to take on multiple responsibilities, learn new areas of collegiate athletics and find ways to elevate the student-athlete experience. Constant has also credited members of the Bowie State community, including Dr. Jolisa Williams and the late Dr. Clyde Doughty Jr., for playing important roles in his development and helping establish the foundation for his career in collegiate athletics. For Constant, returning to Bowie State is more than a new professional opportunity.
