Softball Splits Pair at Salem Invitational, Edges Slippery Rock in Extras

TROUTVILLE, VA — Bowie State softball team (4-12) split a pair of games Saturday at the Salem Invitational, falling 3-1 to Mansfield before rebounding with a 3-2 extra-inning victory over Slippery Rock at the Botetourt Sports Complex.

Game One: Mansfield 3, Bowie State 1
Mansfield took an early lead in the first inning when they scored on a groundout to make it 1-0.

The Bulldogs threatened in the third as Aralynn Robinson and Coreena Dunham reached base, but MU extended its advantage to 3-0 on a two-run single.

BSU broke through in the seventh inning when Santanna Puller launched a solo home run, but the late rally fell short as Mansfield held on for the 3-1 win.

Alycia Searwar (4.0 IP) allowed six hits and three earned runs while striking out one without issuing a walk. Aaliyah Amos pitched two scoreless innings in relief, giving up three hits and two walks to keep the Bulldogs within striking distance.

Bowie State Top Performers vs. Mansfield Game Two: Bowie State 3, Slippery Rock 2 (8 innings)
Slippery Rock opened the scoring in the first inning with a single to drive in a runner for a 1-0 lead.

BSU responded in the bottom half of the inning. Audrey Newell singled to move Mikayla Amos to third, and Presleigh Braxton scored on a fielding error to tie the game at 1-1.
SRU regained the lead in the third inning on a solo home run to make it 2-1.

The Bulldogs answered in the fifth when Taylor Dawkins hit a solo home run to left field, tying the game at 2-2.

In the eighth inning, Dawkins started on second base under the international tiebreaker rule and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Sydney Seals. Santanna Puller followed with a single through the left side to score Dawkins with the go-ahead run and secure the 3-2 victory.

Seals delivered a dominant complete-game performance, pitching eight innings while allowing five hits and two earned runs with 11 strikeouts.
