BOWIE, MD — The Bowie State women's basketball team has accepted an invitation to compete in the Black College Invitational Championship (BCIC), opening play against SIAC foe Central State on Friday, Mar. 27 at the VSU Multipurpose Center in Petersburg, Va. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.

"We're excited to accept the invitation to the BCIC Tournament," said head coach Shadae Swan. "Our team has worked hard this season, and we're looking forward to the opportunity to compete. Opportunities like this are important because they highlight the excellence and tradition of HBCU basketball while giving our student-athletes a chance to compete on a meaningful stage."

Scouting Bowie State
Bowie State is a defense-first team that thrives on pressure, rim protection, and forcing turnovers. The Bulldogs allow just 56.0 points per game while holding opponents to 33.6 percent shooting from the field. Their ability to disrupt passing lanes and convert steals into transition opportunities remains a key factor in their success.

Offensively, BSU averages 66.7 points per game with a balanced attack, featuring multiple contributors rather than a single dominant scorer. Guards Mia Smith and Malaka Cobb lead the way, combining scoring and playmaking, while the frontcourt provides second-chance opportunities and interior scoring. The Bulldogs are also effective at getting to the free-throw line and converting, especially in late-game situations.

On the glass, Bowie State emphasizes physicality and positioning, averaging 38.5 rebounds per game while maintaining a positive rebounding margin. Strong defensive rebounding helps fuel their transition offense, where they are most effective.

• Central State enters with a 6–22 overall record and a 5–19 mark in conference play, featuring a young, developing roster.
• The Marauders average 52.7 points per game while allowing 63.6 (-10.9 scoring margin).
• Central State shoots 35.4 percent from the field and 26.5 percent from three-point range.
