Bulldogs Fall in Doubleheader to Bloomsburg at Nationals Youth Academy

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Bowie State softball team (1-9) dropped both games of a doubleheader to Bloomsburg (4-2) on Saturday at the Nationals Youth Academy, falling 7–5 in extra innings in game one before a late comeback came up short in an 8–7 loss in game two.

Game One: Bloomsburg 7, Bowie State 5 (8 innings)
Bowie State (1-9) battled throughout the opener but could not overcome a three-run eighth inning by Bloomsburg.

The game remained scoreless through the first three innings before Bloomsburg broke through with two unearned runs in the fourth. The Bulldogs answered immediately in the bottom half of the inning when Soleil Bond-Johnson singled and later scored on a wild pitch, followed by Coreena Dunham stealing home to even the score at 2-2.

Bloomsburg regained the lead in the fifth inning to go ahead 3-2, and after a scoreless sixth, the Huskies added another run in the seventh to make it 4-2.

BSU responded again in the bottom of the seventh. Audrey Newell delivered a clutch single that drove in two runs to tie the game at 4-4 and force extra innings.

In the eighth, Bloomsburg capitalized with three runs to take a 7-4 advantage. Bowie State managed one final run when Dunham singled to center field to score Taylor Dawkins, but the rally fell short as the Bulldogs dropped the opener 7-5.

Sydney Seals started in the circle, tossing 4.1 innings while allowing three hits and three runs (one earned) with three strikeouts. Makayla Drakeford pitched the final 3.2 innings, striking out one while allowing four runs.

Dunham led the Bulldogs with two hits, an RBI and a stolen base. Newell finished with two RBIs, while Presleigh Braxton reached base twice and scored a run.

Game Two: Bloomsburg 8, Bowie State 7
In the second game, Bowie State erased an early deficit and nearly completed a dramatic comeback before falling 8-7.

Bloomsburg struck first with a two-run home run in the opening inning. The Bulldogs responded with a run in the bottom of the first and took the lead in the second inning. Lisa Frias led off with a single before the Bulldogs took advantage of multiple passed balls to score two runs and go ahead 3-2.

The Huskies regained control in the fourth inning with a three-run frame and added two more runs in the fifth to extend their lead to 7-3. Bloomsburg later added another run in the sixth to make it 8-3.

Bowie State mounted a strong rally in the bottom of the seventh. Mikayla Amos started the inning with a single, and after Adrianna Dockett reached on a walk, Soleil Bond-Johnson advanced runners into scoring position.

Dunham followed with an RBI bunt single before Dawkins delivered a two-run single to cut the deficit to 8-6. Newell added another RBI single to bring the Bulldogs within one, but the comeback ended with the tying run stranded.

Bond-Johnson led Bowie State with two hits, including a triple, and scored a run while also stealing a base. Dunham finished with a hit, RBI and two runs scored, while Dawkins recorded two RBIs. Frias, Amos, Nguyen-Nhu and Dockett each added hits as the Bulldogs totaled nine in the contest.

Aaliyah Amos went the distance in the circle, pitching seven innings with eight strikeouts while allowing eight runs (six earned).
