Bulldogs Earn Doubleheader Sweep at Virginia Union

RICHMOND, VA — The Bowie State softball team (14-16, 10-0, 4-0 North) swept Virginia Union in a conference doubleheader on Saturday, earning a 9–0 run-rule victory in Game One before securing a 7–3 win in Game Two at VUU Softball Field.

Game One: Bowie State 9, Virginia Union 0 (5 innings)
Bowie State delivered a dominant all-around performance, using timely hitting and aggressive baserunning to secure the shutout victory.

The Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead in the first inning. Coreena Dunham singled and later scored an unearned run after Presleigh Braxton reached on an error. Taylor Dawkins and Mikayla Amos drew walks before Audrey Newell delivered a two-run single. Lisa Frias added an RBI groundout to give BSU a 4–0 advantage.

BSU added to its lead in the third inning when Newell singled and later scored on a double by Sydney Seals. The Bulldogs broke the game open in the fourth, highlighted by an RBI single from Newell and a stolen home by Dawkins on a throwing error, extending the lead to 9–0.

Seals was dominant in the circle, tossing a complete-game one-hitter. She struck out nine and walked two over five innings to secure the shutout.

Game Two: Bowie State 7, Virginia Union 3
The Bulldogs completed the sweep behind a patient offensive approach and strong pitching, drawing 13 walks and scoring in four different innings.

Bowie State took the lead in the first inning as Braxton and Samiyah Abdul-Khabir both scored unearned runs to make it 2–1. The Bulldogs extended their lead in the third inning, with Abdul-Khabir and Braxton each scoring to push the advantage to 4–2.

In the fourth inning, Aralynn Robinson added to the lead with a steal of home. She repeated the feat in the sixth inning, scoring again on a steal of home to give BSU a 7–2 cushion.
Virginia Union added a run in the seventh, but BSU maintained control to secure the 7–3 victory.

Aaliyah Amos earned the win with a complete-game performance, allowing three hits and three runs while striking out six over seven innings.
