CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Bowie State softball pitcher
Aaliyah Amos has been named Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Rookie of the Week and Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday morning.
Amos delivered a dominant week in the circle, leading the Bulldogs with two complete-game performances across 14.0 innings pitched. The freshman recorded 18 strikeouts while limiting opposing hitters and maintaining control throughout both outings.
The Buckingham, Va., native opened the week with a nine-strikeout performance against Millersville on April 15, followed by another nine-strikeout effort in a complete-game victory over Lincoln (PA) on April 18. Amos also induced seven groundouts, effectively keeping hitters off balance while averaging 9.0 strikeouts per appearance.
Her consistency and ability to go the distance in both appearances played a pivotal role in Bowie State's success during the week.
The honors mark the first weekly CIAA awards of Amos' collegiate career.
Looking ahead, the Bulldogs will host MEAC foe Morgan State in a non-conference doubleheader matchup on Tuesday, Apr. 28, at the BSU Softball Complex. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
