BOWIE, MD — The Bowie State softball team (17-19) dropped a nonconference doubleheader to Morgan State (14-26) on Tuesday, falling 4-2 and 14-4 at the BSU Softball Complex.
Game One: Morgan State 4, Bowie State 2
Morgan State used a three-run first inning and held off a late push to take the opener.
The Lady Bears capitalized early with timely hitting and a sacrifice fly to build a 3-0 lead in the first. Bowie State responded in the fourth inning, as
Samiyah Abdul-Khabir reached base and later scored.
Sydney Seals and
Nala Bain followed with back-to-back doubles, with Bain driving in two runs to cut the deficit to 3-2.
Morgan State added an insurance run in the seventh after a leadoff triple and sacrifice fly to seal the 4-2 win.
Seals pitched a complete game for the Bulldogs, allowing four runs (three earned) on nine hits while striking out seven and walking four.
Game Two: Morgan State 14, Bowie State 4
The Lady Bears offense erupted in the nightcap, using multiple big innings to secure the sweep.
MSU jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and extended the advantage with a four-run second inning to make it 7-0. Bowie State answered in the bottom half, as Abdul-Khabir and
Margaret-Malaika Weaver recorded hits to set the table.
Adrianna Dockett and Ja'Chelle Mosley each drew bases-loaded walks, and
Taylor Dawkins delivered a two-RBI double to trim the deficit to 7-4.
Morgan State responded with two runs in the third and broke the game open with a five-run fifth inning to close out the 14-4 victory.
Makayla Drakeford added 2.1 innings of relief, and
Sydney Seals recorded the final two outs.
