Softball Travel to Wilmington for Doubleheader Clash with Goldey-Beacom

BOWIE, MD -- The Bowie State softball team (12–12, 6–0 CIAA) will hit the road for a doubleheader against Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent Goldey-Beacom (12–12, 4–4 CACC) on Saturday, Apr. 4. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. at the Jackson Athletic Complex in Wilmington, Del.

Bowie State turned in a dominant performance at the CIAA Round-Up, going a perfect 6–0 over the weekend with wins over Claflin (3–2), Livingstone (3–0), Winston-Salem State (4–2), Fayetteville State (7–4), Johnson C. Smith (12–5), and Shaw (2–0).

The Bulldogs opened the weekend with a late-inning comeback victory over Claflin, using a two-run sixth inning to secure the win. They followed with a shutout of Livingstone behind a one-hit, complete game from Aaliyah Amos.

BSU continued its strong play with a 4–2 win over Winston-Salem State, highlighted by a three-run third inning and a nine-strikeout performance from Sydney Seals. The offense erupted against Fayetteville State and Johnson C. Smith, combining for 19 runs across the two games, including a 16-hit showing against JCSU.

The weekend concluded with a 2–0 shutout over Shaw, as Seals delivered a dominant 12-strikeout complete game performance.

Scouting the Bulldogs
Bowie State is led offensively by Mikayla Amos, who is hitting .410 with a team-high 25 hits, five doubles, and 11 RBI. Audrey Newell has been a key run producer, batting .333 with 16 RBI and two home runs, while Taylor Dawkins adds versatility with a .321 average, extra-base power, and speed on the bases.

Presleigh Braxton has been a consistent presence at the top of the lineup, scoring a team-high 17 runs, while Coreena Dunham provides power with three home runs on the season. Nala Bain has also made an impact in limited action, batting .385 with a home run and three RBI.

In the circle, Seals anchors the pitching staff with a 2.56 ERA, a 6–3 record, and 70 strikeouts, consistently delivering complete game performances. A. Amos complements her with a 3.92 ERA and has proven effective in both starting and relief roles.

Defensively, the Bulldogs hold a .950 team fielding percentage. Audrey Newell leads the way behind the plate with a .984 fielding percentage, while several players, including Braxton and A. Amos, have been perfect defensively, helping stabilize the unit.

Goldey-Beacom split a doubleheader against cross-town rival Wilmington (DE), falling 3–1 in game one before responding with a 3–0 shutout victory in game two.

In game one, GBC struck first in the second inning as Ayri Hansen delivered a double to left center to score Autumn Simpson. However, Wilmington answered with three unanswered runs across the fourth, sixth, and seventh innings to secure the win.

The Lightning bounced back in game two with an explosive start, scoring all three runs in the opening inning. Bri Cole executed a sacrifice bunt to plate the first run, followed by RBI contributions from Rayna Pelcak and Hansen to build an early lead. Lauren Carbonara dominated in the circle, tossing a four-hit shutout and facing just six batters over the minimum to secure the victory.
