SHIPPENSBURG, PA — The Bowie State softball team (10–16, 6-0 CIAA) dropped both games of a nonconference doubleheader to Shippensburg on Tuesday, falling 9–1 in game one and 5–4 in game two at Robb Field.
Game One: Shippensburg 9, Bowie State 1
Bowie State was limited to four hits in the opener, with its lone run coming in the fourth inning.
Presleigh Braxton reached on an error to start the frame, and
Taylor Dawkins followed with a single.
Mikayla Amos later delivered an RBI single to right field, scoring Braxton to cut the deficit to 2–1. The run was unearned.
Shippensburg responded in the fifth inning, beginning with a walk and bunt single before a sacrifice fly extended the lead. A three-run home run later in the inning pushed the margin to 6–1.
The Raiders added three more runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by an RBI double and a two-run single, to secure the 9–1 victory.
Game Two: Shippensburg 5, Bowie State 4
The Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead but were unable to hold off a late rally by Shippensburg.
BSU plated three runs in the first inning.
Coreena Dunham and Braxton each drew walks before Dawkins singled to drive in Dunham.
Aaliyah Amos followed with a bases-loaded walk to score Braxton, and a wild pitch brought home another run to give BSU a 3–0 advantage.
Dawkins extended the lead in the third inning with a solo home run to left field, making it 4–0.
SU answered in the fourth inning with two runs on a triple and a double to cut the deficit in half. The Raiders added another run in the fifth to make it 4–3.
After a scoreless sixth inning, Shippensburg completed the comeback in the seventh, using a two-run single to take a 5–4 lead and secure the sweep.
