Bowie State Student-Athletes Continue Academic Excellence During Spring 2026

BOWIE, MD – Bowie State University student-athletes continued their strong academic performance during the Spring 2026 semester, highlighted by the inaugural golf program posting a department-best 3.51 team grade-point average.

The Bulldogs' success in the classroom extended across the department, with five programs recording team GPAs of 3.0 or higher during the spring semester. Along with golf's department-leading 3.51 GPA, volleyball posted a 3.38 GPA, followed by women's cross country/track & field (3.16), softball (3.15), and women's basketball (3.08).

The spring semester capped another successful year academically for Bowie State Athletics, which finished the 2025-26 academic year with a cumulative departmental GPA of 3.0.

"I am extremely proud of our student-athletes for their continued commitment to academic excellence," said Dr. Jolisa Williams, Interim Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation. "Their success in the classroom reflects their discipline, work ethic, and the strong support system provided by our coaches and staff. They continue to represent Bowie State University at a high level in every aspect of their experience."

Bowie State's academic achievements were further highlighted by 114 student-athletes earning Athletics Director's Honor Roll recognition during the spring semester, including 23 student-athletes who achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA and 39 who earned Academic Elite honors with GPAs between 3.50 and 3.99. 114 student-athletes were named to the Athletics Director's Honor Roll, while 149 Bulldogs earned recognition on the CIAA Commissioner's Honor Roll during the academic year. Additionally, more than 30 student-athletes graduated during the 2025-26 academic year.

Other highlights from the Spring 2026 semester include:
  • Five programs posted team GPAs of 3.0 or higher
  • Golf recorded a department-best 3.51 GPA in its inaugural season
  • Volleyball posted a 3.38 GPA
  • Women's Cross Country/Track & Field recorded a 3.16 GPA
  • Softball finished with a 3.15 GPA
  • Women's Basketball posted a 3.08 GPA
  • 23 student-athletes earned a perfect 4.0 GPA
  • 39 student-athletes earned Academic Elite recognition (3.50-3.99 GPA)
  • 52 student-athletes earned Academic Honors recognition (3.00-3.49 GPA)
