(WASHINGTON, DC) Bowie State University returned to its winning ways with a three set sweep of the University of the District of Columbia. BSU's Lady Bulldogs took care of UDC's Lady Firebirds 25-21, 25-19 and 25-23 to improve its record to 9-7.
Karen Trevino and Anne Sanchez recorded a game-high 11 digs each for the University of D.C. Lady Firebirds. Sanchez also tied for game-high dig honors with 12. Carmen Smith accounted for a game-high 28 assists and Ashley Jefferson along with Janae Burt were credited with nine digs each in the loss. The setback drops the University of the District of Columbia to 3-10 on the year.
The duo of Tamira Conner Rogers (Ft. Washington, MD, Oxon Hill) and Alycia Williams-Chase (Baltimore, MD, Baltimore Polytechnic) paced Bowie State with eight and seven kills respectively. Jasmine McNair (Germantown, MD, Seneca Valley) put away six kills for the Lady Bulldogs and Itumeleng Shadreck (Bostwana Africa, East Chapel Hill, North Carolina Central) along with Ashley Robinson (Cleveland, OH, Shaker Heights) knocked down five and four kills respectively in the victory.
Shadreck was BSU's setup queen, recording 18 on the night with McNair adding another seven assists. Williams-Chase and McNair combined for 22 of BSU's 46 digs and Bethany Sloat (Baltimore, MD, Western) led both teams with three service aces.
The same two teams will meet again in less than 48 hours, this time in Bowie State's A.C. Jordan Arena at 1 p.m. Saturday.
