FINAL STATS

(BOWIE, Md.)  In a contest of two pretty evenly matched teams, Bowie State University and the University of the District of Columbia went five before the visitors claimed a 3-2 decision over the host Lady Bulldogs.  BSU's Lady Bulldogs lost by scores of 25-23, 22-25, 25-23, 23-25 and 13-15.

With the match tied at two games each, Bowie State opened up a 5-1 advantage forcing UDC's Firebirds to call a timeout.  Following the timeout, the University of the District of Columbia went on a 6-0 run and used that momentum to claim their first victory of the season.

Bowie State (1-15) was led by senior Itumeleng Shadreck (Botswana Africa, East Chapel Hill, North Carolina Central) with a team-high 19 kills and a team-high 18 digs.  Junior JaTyra Heath (Federalsburg, MD, Colonel Richardson) and freshman Jasmine Nixon (Middletown, NY, Middletown) knocked down 13 and 12 kills respectively.  Senior Breaun Garner (Beltsville, MD, Northwestern) also tallied double-digit kills, recording 11 in the setback to go along with 12 digs.

The University of the District of Columbia (1-4) was paced by junior Karen Trevino (Anthony, NM) with a game-high 25 kills and added 13 digs, one block solo and two block assists.  Junior Carmon Smith also had double figure kills for the visitors, putting down 12 on the night to go along with a game-high 20 digs. 

Bowie State returns to conference action - Monday, September 28th, hosting Virginia State University.  match time is 5:30 p.m. in BSU's A.C. Jordan Arena.
