Shaw (4-1, 1-1 CIAA) scored the first points of the afternoon following Bowie State's first miscue of the game. Shaw's LaMichael Howell scooped a Bowie State fumble and ran 58 yards untouched into the Bulldogs end zone. Caleb Reid added the extra point for an early 7-0 lead. The Shaw Bears took a 14-0 first quarter advantage following a one-yard touchdown run by Raymond Williams with 2:36 left in the opening period.

Michael Gagne (Baltimore, MD, Parkville) kicked a 24-yard field at the 12:40 mark of the second quarter, capping off a 10 play – 78 yard drive, making the score 14-3. Lyncon Shepherd got those three points back after kicking a 37-yard field goal for the Shaw Bears. Sophomore
Clifton Budd (Silver Spring, MD, Sherwood) caught a 31-yard touchdown pass from Yeager at the 3:12 mark of the second quarter, trimming the deficit to 17-10. Shaw committed its first turnover of the game via a Bowie State interception. Bowie State's Webb wasted no time tying the game at 17-17, rumbling 47 yards to pay dirt just before the half.
Both teams were scoreless in the second half. In the first overtime, Williams dashed for 24 yards, giving the Bears a 24-17 lead. The Bulldogs answered with a Webb two-yard run.
Bowie State went on offense first in the second overtime period, setting up Yeager's magical quarterbacking skills. Yeager was sacked by Frederick Sparkman for a loss of five yards on BSU's first play. Yeager threw two incomplete passes on second and third down, forcing the Bulldogs to call timeout. Damon Wilson, Yeager connected with Dixon for the eventual game winning score.
Shaw's Williams picked up three yards down to the Bowie State 22 yard line on the Bears' first play in the second overtime period. Fortunately for Bowie State, Brandon Landers threw three straight incomplete passes to seal the win for the Bulldogs. Landers threw for a game-high 140 yards and Williams rushed for a team-high 108 yards to lead Shaw on offense. Callahan Bright and Sparkman paced the Bears on defense with 10 and nine tackles respectively.

Anthony Green (Randallstown, MD, Randallstown) was Bowie State's top receiver, grabbing four passes for 43 yards. Sophomore
Delano Johnson (Baltimore, MD, Dunbar) led the Bowie State defense with eight tackles and senior Yusef Dorman-El added another seven.
Bowie State (3-2, 2-0 CIAA), travels to Lincoln (Pa.) next Saturday (10/1) to face the Lions in a 1 p.m. contest at Avon Grove High School.
