(WASHINGTON, D.C.) In a high spirited match, the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds defeated the Bowie State University Lady Bulldogs, 3-0 at the UDC Sports Complex. Firebirds senior middle hitter Karen Trevino paced the Firebirds to victory with 11 kills , one service ace, and three digs.
Bowie State lost by set scores of 25-18, 25-16, and 25-17. The Firebirds improved their season record to 18-5 with the win, while the BSU's Lady Bulldogs fall to 4-25 on the year.
UDC finished the match with a .417 hitting percentage compared to Bowie State's .270. Bowie State stayed surprisingly close during the match, with the lead actually changing hands three times and the score was tied eight times on the night. However the 42 Firebirds kills to 25 for the Lady Bulldogs tells the whole story, as Bowie State couldn't lay down enough kills to keep up with the Firebirds' hitting power.
Senior middle hitter Ashley Jefferson and junior outside hitter Grace DeMichelis made seven kills apiece in helping to provide the team leadership in scoring. Jefferson also closed out her home match career with 4 service aces and 8 digs.

Kassondra Greis (Mount Airy, MD, Linganore) led Bowie State with a team-high eight kills and sophomore
Jasmine Nixon (Middletown, NY, Middletown) along with freshman
Kyerra Martin (Capital Heights, MD, Forestville Military Academy) chipped in four kills each. Freshman
Tiffany White (Towson, MD, Digital Harbor) paced the Lady Bulldogs with 17 assists.
Bowie State will close out the 2010 season with a doubleheader - Saturday, (October 30), facing East Stroudsburg at 3 pm followed by a 5 pm match against host West Chester University.
