ST. MARY'S DEFEATS BOWIE STATE 7-2 IN NON-CONFERENCE TENNIS PLAY

MATCH RESULTS

(BOWIE, Md.)  St. Mary's College of Maryland defeated Bowie State 7-2 in non-conference women's tennis action.  The loss puts the Lady Bulldogs overall record at 11-4 on the year.

Bowie State's two wins came at number three singles and number two doubles.  Senior Kyara Lombre (Mitchellville, MD, C.H. Flowers) defeated Katie Lackler 9-8 (21-19 tiebreaker).  Lombre and junior Chelyce Fields (Suitland, MD, Suitland) won their doubles match, defeating the St. Mary's tandem of Beth Handy and Katie Lackler 8-6.

Michelel Compton defeated BSU senior Danielle Fields (Suitland, MD, Suitland) 8-6 at number one singles and Beth Handy shutout senior Lydia Mahon (Hyattsville, MD) 8-0 in number two singles play.

Chelyce Fields dropped an 8-6 decision to Marie Rau of St. Mary's at number four singles and SMC's Chelsea Bradcovich edged freshman Irene-Gail Orozco 9-7 at number five singles.  Bowie State senior Jasmine McNair (Germantown, MD, Seneca Valley) lost 8-2 to Shelby Mullennix in number six singles action.

St. Mary's won number one and three doubles by scores of 8-6 and 8-4.

Bowie State will wrap up conference play Thursday (April 1) hosting Virginia State University at 5 p.m.
