(PETERSBURG, Va.) Second-year head coach
Darrell Toney was selected the 2010 CIAA Softball Coach of the Year by his colleagues and presented the plaque at the Annual Spring Championships Awards Presentation.
“I am truly honored to receive this award and humbly accept it on behalf of my team, the coaches and the entire Bowie State University family”, said Toney.
Toney guided the BSU Lady Bulldogs to the CIAA Eastern Division title and compiled a 14-1 record in the CIAA and a perfect 8-0 record in the division. The Eastern Division crown is Bowie State's third in a row. In Toney's first season (2009), Bowie State won the CIAA Championship, its third straight overall conference title, advanced to the NCAA Atlantic Regional and rolled up a record of 26-8.
Bowie State University will open the CIAA Spring Championships on Thursday (April 15) with a noon match up against Shaw University at the Petersburg Sports Complex.
