BOWIE, MD --- Bowie State softball players Lindsey George and Jayla Hill have been chosen to represent the university in the Minority Softball Prospects (MSP) HBCU All-Star Game, taking place Friday, May 30 at Stick Williams Dream Fields in Charlotte, N.C. Head Coach Ed Powell will also be recognized, serving as an honorary coach during the event.

"I am beyond thrilled and deeply honored to have been selected as one of the head coaches for the MSP HBCU Third Annual Softball Game," stated head coach Powell. "To be chosen to lead a team made up of some of the most exceptional, driven, and talented student-athletes from historically black colleges and universities across the nation is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. This event is far more than just a game, it's a powerful celebration of excellence, athletic achievement, and the rich culture and tradition that HBCU's represent".

This marks Hill's third selection to the MSP HBCU All-Star Game. She earned First Team honors as both an outfielder and designated player following an impressive comeback season. The senior played in 44 games, starting 43 primarily in the outfield, and recorded 46 hits, including 10 doubles, three triples, and six home runs. She drove in 31 runs and scored 29 times. A former tournament MVP, Hill finished the season with a .338 batting average, a .588 slugging percentage, and a .389 on-base percentage. On the basepaths, the Ruther Glen, Va., native went 6-for-11 in stolen base attempts.

Defensively, Hill has been flawless, recording 47 putouts, two assists, and no errors for a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage. Her best performance this season came on March 21, when she blasted two home runs in a win over Fayetteville State during the CIAA Round-Up.

"I'm especially proud to see two of my players, Lindsey George and Jayla Hill, earning their spots in this year's all-star game. Lindsey has been a force on the mound, and Jayla brings unmatched energy and leadership to the outfield, both have been instrumental in helping our program capture three conference championships," added Powell. "Being part of an event that shines a spotlight on incredible young women like them, and the legacy they are building both on and off the field, is something I take tremendous pride in. I'm excited to stand alongside them, coach them, and represent the unity, resilience, and excellence that this game embodies."
