(BOWIE, Md.) The Bowie State University Lady Bulldogs clinched their third straight CIAA Eastern Division title after sweeping Saint Paul's College 12-11 and 15-4. Bowie State remains perfect in the division at 8-0 and improved to 11-1 in the CIAA.

Shalai Tabor (Waldorf, MD, Delaware State Univ.) paced Bowie State with five hits in seven plate appearances, scored five runs and recorded her 12th home run of the season. Seniors

Shanae Smoot (Bel Alton, Md., LaPlata) and freshman
Megan Alexander (Damascus, Md., Damascus) tallied three hits each for BSU's Lady Bulldogs in the doubleheader.
TeKesha Rhodes, Kristen Caldwell and Stephanie Gray led Saint Paul's with four hits apiece in the losses. Caldwell hit a solo home run in game one and had a team-high six RBI.
Saint Paul's (7-13, 7-7 CIAA, 4-4 East) was on the door step of pulling off an upset win over the three-time defending CIAA Champions of Bowie State in the opening game. Saint Paul's hit the ball extremely well in the first game with Caldwell leading Saint Paul's with three hits and a game-high five RBI.
Scherrie Smith took the game one loss for Saint Paul's, allowing 13 hits, eight earned runs, walked two and struck out two.
BSU's Tabor went four-of-four in game one and tied for team-high RBI honors (three) with Brown. Brown struck out seven and picked up the win after relieving Alexander in the top of the fourth inning.
Game two was decided in the bottom of the first inning as the Bowie State put eight in the book on just four hits and three St. Paul's errors. The biggest hit in the inning came off the bat of Smoot, crushing a three-run homer run to left field.
Saint Paul's got three of those runs back in their portion of the third. However, Bowie State equaled that total, padding the Lady Bulldogs lead to 11-3.
Bowie State put a four spot on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning to stop the game via the NCAA eight-run mercy rule.
Slater paced Bowie State in game two with a game-high three hits and Smoot along with junior
(Silver Spring, MD, Montgomery Blair) followed with a pair of hits each. Smoot recorded a personal season-high five RBI and freshman
Amanda Hedgepeth (Odenton, MD, Arundel) was responsible for three RBI. Brown earned her 10th pitching victory of the season, striking out five and walked one.
Rhodes and Gray led Saint Paul's in the nightcap with two hits each.
Bowie State (17-18) returns to the diamond Tuesday (April 6), hosting Shaw University in a conference doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
