Darren Clark scored a game-high 22 points and fellow senior
Jay Gavin added 18 points in Bowie State's 79-67 win over Roberts Wesleyan College. The win was the fourth in a row and improves the Bulldogs season record to 7-1.
Roberts Wesleyan was not intimidated by a much taller Bowie State team and held the Bulldogs to a 31-31 halftime tie. The first half featured eight ties and seven lead changes. The Raiders hit 11-of-27 from the field in the first period, which included 3-of-10 beyond the 3-point line and 6-of-7 free throws.
Bowie State shot 46 percent over the first 20 minutes, making 11-of-24 field goals and 6-of-9 from the charity stripe. The Bulldogs held an 18-14 rebound advantage but turned the ball over 13 times.
The Bulldogs began the second half with a 5-0 run and gained the momentum needed for the remainder of the game. Bowie State increased its lead to 11 points (60-49) by the 8:10 mark of the second half.
Roberts Wesleyan (4-11) was able to close the gap to five following two free throws by Mike Stone with 6:48 left to play, but that's as close as the Raiders would get. Exactly half of Roberts Wesleyan's 36 second half points came via the free throw line. Alif Bland knocked down 6-of-8 and Patrick Downer converted 4-of-6 in the final period of play.
The Raiders were led in scoring and rebounds by Bland with 16 and 11 respectively. Stone and Herbert Alexander added 15 points apiece and Downer chipped in 12 points.

Travis Hyman contributed 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Junior transfer
Najee White had another positive game, scoring nine points to go along with four rebounds and one block.
The Bulldogs will break for Christmas before closing out the first half of the season – Friday, December 30th, hosting Goldey-Beacom College at 7 pm.
