CHANITA JORDAN NAMED CIAA DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Seniors Teaunsha Robinson and Eric Vann Selected All-CIAA First Team

The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association has announced its honorees for the 2011 All-CIAA teams and Players of the Year as selected by the men's and women's basketball coaches associations.  

Of those being honored are Bowie State University seniors Eric Vann (Clinton, MD, Gwynn Park, Prince George's C.C.) and Teaunsha Robinson (Baltimore, MD, Baltimore Polytechnic) were selected to the All-CIAA First Team and junior Chanita Jordan (Philadelphia, PA, University City, North Carolina State) was named CIAA Defensive Player of the Year.

The women's team is headlined by 2011 CIAA Women's Player of the Year, Allison Sikes (Sr./G, 5'10/Richmond, VA) of the St. Augustine's College Lady Falcons. Sikes ranks second in the CIAA in scoring, averaging 17.3 ppg. and heads the steals category with 80, 3.2pg.

Jordan sits at the top of the conference in the blocked shots category with 71, 2.8 pg.

The men's team is headlined by Johnson C. Smith University's Trevin Parks (So./G/5'9/Hickory, NC), who is the 2011 CIAA Men's Player of the Year. Parks dominates the CIAA in scoring; leading the pack with 471 total points and a 22.4 per game average. As of Feb 20, this Golden Bull has logged 92 assists in 21 games.

Paul Davis (Sr./F/6'9/Clio, SC) of the Winston-Salem State University Rams, claims this years' CIAA Defensive Player of the Year award. Davis tops three statistical lists this season- rebounding 218; blocked shots 58, 2.5pg. and field goal percentage, 117-180 for .650 avg. in 23 games.

The All-CIAA Teams and Players of the Year will be honored at the 2011 CIAA Basketball Tournament Tip-Off Awards Ceremonies on Sunday, February 27 (Women) and Tuesday, March 1 (Men)- Charlotte Convention Center.
